I writing to share a tragic event that abruptly stopped the world of the Cohen Family. On Sunday, June 6th a critical cardiac event placed Nikki in the ICU at Froedtert where she is intubated, sedated, and reliant on an ECMO machine at this very moment. These interventions are in place to keep her alive as we all pray for a positive outcome.
Nikki has had some miraculous moments and early signs that she is responding favorably to her treatment plan but the truth is she has a considerable journey in front that will take months of recovery and will test her strength - One remarkable consistency is her best moments have been when Shane was at her side... in those moments she recognized his presence, reached out for his hand, and maintained eye contact -- he has truly been her source of strength.
As she faces the oncoming weeks it is evident that having Shane by her side is a necessity... Shane CANNOT make that happen by himself, he NEEDS OUR HELP!
Shane has secured unpaid FMLA from work but like all of us, he cannot afford to take an extended amount of time off to be the husband Nikki needs at her hospital bedside and also be the providing father/husband he needs to be for his family without his weekly paycheck.
Like all of you... I have known Shane and Nikki to be genuinely kind hearted people, inclusive to all friends family and strangers, always give more than they take - they are people that are easy to love and a couple that are great to spend time with :)
In this time of urgency - Shane is faced with an unsolvable problem. Shane knows his place should be at Nikki's side... she responds best when he is there... he is lost when he is anywhere else... quite simply 'they need each other right now'
WE CAN MAKE THIS HAPPEN!
It is time for this village to rally together and give Shane and Nikki the support they need... show them we love them as much as they love all of us-
