Hi,
My name is Sofia and I am Caleb’s Wita (short for abuelita). I’m reaching out to anybody that wants to help me help my grandson who just turned 2 and was diagnosed with Autism level 3 in August. He is non-verbal but he is learning to communicate by signing. Is those little steps he has done that makes me reach out. He needs help, specially Mom and Dad. Even though it was an unexpected event in our family we all embraced it and came together as one! He just started taking Speech therapy this past Monday. The only place that had a space available for him was the University of Alabama but they do not accept their health insurance. Right now they are paying out of pocket. Yes, I know what you are thinking…theres help for kids with special needs and so and so, but apparently in the military things are done differently. My son is stationed in Alabama right now and he is in the process of relocating to Ocala, Fl where Caleb may be able to get all the therapy he needs. But again it might take some time. In the meantime we don’t want this delay keep him behind in his treatment.
Caleb is the most energetic and passionate little boy. He loves his big brother Julien with all his heart and always is following him. Momma and Daddy are trying their best in keeping Caleb learning to communicate. There are great days and other very tough. My son is the only person working (with pay) in this household. Momma stays home caring for everyone. Having kids is challenging but having a kid with a “different ability” is exhausting.
Please, help me reach this goal of $1,600. This will cover 32 speech therapies. Hopefully by then, they’ll be ready to move to Ocala in the Summer.
Blessings
