Madame Bovary: A New Musical
In 2023, I staged my first musical, Mansfield Park. After that experience, I set my eyes on working on another adaptation. Gustave Flaubert’s novel Madame Bovary has themes and sensibilities that have stuck with me in the years since I first read it. Its depictions of class struggle, navigating intimate relationships, dreams, and aspirations always lead me back to Flaubert’s work. With my prior experience, I knew that I would be fit to adapt and help shape this timeless story in order to better resonate with modern audiences. With Madame Bovary being my Capstone Project for my senior year at Kent State University, I find this the perfect time to use my work to help support fellow Kent students and give an opportunity for those not seen.
With your help, my team of artists can:
- Secure a venue
- Assemble and pay for a pit orchestra
- Build, construct, and travel scenery
- Build and construct costumes
- Pay for the labor of artists’ work
With my adaptations, I always hope to give opportunities to artists, regardless of experience level. I aim to help foster and guide their talents, with hopes of staging this musical adaptation in 2026. I look for your help and guidance in order to bring Madame Bovary to the stage, shining light on the many talents of not only me but so many other Kent State students. Thank you for the opportunity and hopefully being a part of introducing Madame Bovary: A New Musical to the world.
