We are fundraising for our dear friend Peter Clerkin, to help Peter and his family prepare and adapt their home for his expected return in January 2027, after 11 months in hospital following a life changing brain injury in February 2026.

In February, Peter was rushed to the ICU at Beaumont Hospital Dublin after a rare and significant brain hemorrhage on the right side of his brain, caused by a dural arteriovenous fistula. Thanks to Beaumont's amazing neuro team, Peter was stabilised, but he remained in ICU for nearly two months while his family and friends waited for him to wake from his coma in April.

Later that month, Peter was transferred to the Mater Hospital Dublin to continue his recovery and rehab. There he suffered another significant setback: a second bleed on the right side of his brain, caused by an aneurysm. Each bleed caused a stroke, leaving Peter with significantly reduced mobility on the left side of his body.

The road to recovery has been long and challenging, but anyone who knows Peter knows his incredible determination and positivity. Giving up has never been in his nature. Since his transfer in September, Peter has been working with a fantastic team at the National Rehabilitation Hospital (NRH) to regain as much mobility, strength and independence as possible ahead of his planned return home in mid January.

Despite the amazing progress he has made, Peter has a significant road ahead and is likely to have reduced mobility for some time. His family is urgently preparing for his return, including converting the family garage into a downstairs bedroom with an accessible bathroom, so Peter can come home safely and continue his rehabilitation.

The costs are substantial, and despite applying for available grants, the family faces a significant financial burden. Peter is also self employed and has not been able to work for this whole period and is likely to be out of work for some time, which makes this even more challenging for the family.

With the family's permission, we have set up this fundraiser to support Peter and his family with these costs as they continue on his journey of recovery. Any funds raised beyond the immediate renovation will go towards the additional resources Peter will need, such as continued rehabilitation after the NRH, and any home and wheelchair equipment required.

Those who know Peter know him as an extremely kind, loving and caring man. Throughout this journey, his wife Sabrina, his children Dylan, Lea and Alana, and his friends have been by his side every step of the way. This fundraiser gives the wider community a way to stand behind Peter and be part of his recovery.

Any donation, no matter how big or small, means the world to Peter and his family. And if you are unable to donate, that’s completely okay. Sharing this page with family and friends helps just as much ❤️
