Tim's medical bills

Hi, my name is Susan Shoemaker and on September 18, 2021, I took my husband Tim to Urgent Care because he had been feeling very sick for a few weeks. I was worried that it might be Covid. But it was much worse. His bp was dangerously low so he was sent immediately to the ER. After many hours of blood tests, xrays, etc etc it was determined that he had liver failure. He had contracted Hep A and it was damaging his liver. They admitted him and treated him for a few days but then transferred him to Duke University Hospital. After 2 previous stays at Duke, his liver just wasn't recovering like it should. On November 4, 2021 we went in for a follow up and found that now his kidneys were failing as well and our only option was a transplant. With a MELD score of 40, he went on the transplant list on November 16th and a liver was offered to hom the next day. He went in to surgery that night. If he would have had to wait very long, he would not have made it. It has been an emotional few months and we are extremely fortunate to have gotten the tranplant so quickly. Not everyone is as fortunate and we recognize that. Our friends and family have been amazing and have supported us so much through this. Both with their love and prayers as well as money. They even had a fundraiser for us which netted $2k. The money we have been given by everyone has been used for expenses while at the hospital and for paying our monthly bills. The insurance has paid the majority of the expenses related to his stays at Duke & Iredell Memorial but there is still quite a bit left to pay. Tim will be out of work for the next 6-9 months so we are selling our house so that we can pay off all of our debt but it will still not be enough to cover all of the medical bills too.
