My name is Marie Nagle and on behalf of the Lisgriffin Community we want to help one of our own, The Coady Family.
Sometimes life hands one family more than seems bearable. For the Coady family, each day is a testament to courage, love, and unimaginable strength in the face of devastating challenges. The Coady family has always been close, full of love, laughter, and resilience. But now, they are facing a storm that no family should have to weather alone.
At the heart of the family is Craig Coady, a devoted father and husband who has dedicated his life to protecting and providing for those he loves. But Craig’s world is unravelling. His wife, Della, once vibrant and always the rock of her family, is in the advanced stages of Huntington’s disease - a cruel, hereditary neurological condition that slowly strips away a person’s ability to move, think, and function independently. Yet despite the disease’s steady grip, her fierce love for her children remains untouched.
As if this were not enough, their 15-year-old son, Paudie, is now walking his own difficult path. Paudie was diagnosed with Friedreich’s Ataxia, a rare and degenerative condition that slowly robs children and young adults of coordination and muscle strength. It is progressive. It is unrelenting. And Paudie knows all too well what it means.
And then, the unimaginable happened. Just weeks ago, the family suffered an unimaginable loss. Rory, their youngest son suddenly and unexpectedly passed away at just 13 years old. His spirit was bright, his heart was full, and his bond with his older brother was unbreakable. Rory was loved by all who knew him. Such a beautiful boy.
No parent should have to bury their child.
No brother should have to say goodbye so young.
And no family should have to endure so much heartbreak all at once.
The grief is raw and overwhelming. Rory was the light in their home—loving, cheeky, kind, and full of mischief. His absence echoes in every room, every corner of the house that used to ring with laughter.
Why They Need Your Help:
Craig is the full-time career for Paudie while trying to hold the family together through devastating grief. While Craig works part time in order to care for Paudie the financial pressure is enormous when you consider the typical bills he has to meet on a weekly and monthly basis, i.e., mortgage repayments, insurances, all the day to day living expenses, and rising medical costs.
Funds raised will go directly to:
Home modifications and mobility aids for Paudie as his condition progresses.
Grief support and counselling.
Basic living costs as Craig remains at home to provide round-the-clock care for Paudie.
Transportation and accommodation for vital medical appointments for Paudie.
Despite their challenges, this family clings to hope. Hope that with support, Paudie can have access to the care he needs to live with dignity. Hope that Rory’s memory will live on not just in their hearts, but in the hearts of all who hear their story.
In a world that often moves too fast, this is a chance to slow down and stand with a family that has given everything—and now needs us to give something back.
Please, donate what you can. Share their story. And help this brave family feel the love they so deeply deserve. Let’s show them they are not alone.
