Stacy's Volunteer Trip to Cambodia
I just accepted the offer to volunteer with Justice and Soul in Cambodia in September!
Who is Justice and Sould? The short answer is, they are a foundation that helps women that have escaped or are at risk of the horrors of sex trafficking. They give these women the opportunity to apprentice at Kate Korpi Salon (a high end salon in Cambodia that they run) in order to learn how to do hair so that they have a viable career out of the dangers that prevail in sex trafficking.
How does it work? Justice and Soul does not primarily run off of donations. The way that they fund the program is by having guest artists (such as myself) come and work as stylists at their high end salon, with all the proceeds of their work going towards running the salon and the education program.
What will I be doing? I'll be working as a guest artist behind the chair, and also be helping teach classes to the apprentices there!
Why Justice and Soul? Upon learning about the horrors of sex trafficking many years ago, I found myself thinking, "What can be done about this? Something's gotta change!" However, I was lost as to how I could use my skill set to help others. When I learned about this organization, I just knew it was a perfect way for me to contribute what I had to offer to help combat this atrocity. The issue of sex trafficking has been very close to my heart and I hope that by helping find alternatives to both escapees and those at risk we can peice together a solution to this problem!
What can you do to help? I'm responsible to pay my own flights and living while I'm out there; this includes rent, food, transportation, etc. After talking to the people at J&S and doing my own research I discovered that it would cost about $3,000 to get everything covered for me to be able to do this.
I would very much appreciate any donations that you're willing to give in order to help me to go over there and help these women! Whether it be $1 or $20, every little bit helps and I am very appreciative of it! If you don't have money to donate, no worries! I would be equally appreciative of you sharing this with your friends so that I could get as much reach as possible!
