Hello hello. My name is Cameron Counts, writer and director of RED SOLO. I’m a movie lover and storyteller & my goal is to use stories to uplift the voices of my community. It’s my mission to begin shooting RED SOLO this coming Fall 2025.

I'm from South Carolina, where racism and bigotry is the norm and queerness is a "sin.” As a queer Black person (closeted af until adulthood) there were many times during my childhood and adolescence where I felt extremely isolated.

RED SOLO follows Jordan, a young, queer, and closeted Black man who struggles with isolation in his all-white friend group. On Halloween night, Jordan grieves the end of his relationship at a house party surrounded by friends who fail to notice his low spirits. After volunteering to retrieve party favors, his night takes a dark turn.

The film explores themes of loneliness, homophobia, racism, and the internal battle of living in a world that does not understand you and does not attempt to. It will reflect a reality that many queer, Black, and people of color face every day: a feeling of being alone, unheard, or unseen. In addition to the racial and homophobic struggles that Jordan faces, the film aims to bring awareness to the fentanyl crisis.

Director of Photography: Korey McElligott

Korey is a Cinematographer and Photographer who has worked on a wide variety of projects types throughout the years. He is originally from Florida, but has been in Chicago since 2018. They are most passionate about sharing queer stories and those that support nature conservation. In addition he recently has taken on more projects with local musicians and greatly enjoys that artistic collaboration. They are extremely excited to contribute to Red Solo as the Cinematographer to bring life to the important emotions and experiences in this Black and Queer story.
