Help a Single Mom Secure a Home for Her Kids

I am a single mom to four amazing kids and I debated for the longest time if this was the right thing to do, but I've decided that if I'm doing it for my kids it's ok.

A little over a year ago my landlord decided that he wanted to fix up the unit I had been in for 13 years so he could charge more. No matter how hard I searched, a reasonably priced apartment for a single mom was not to be found. I applied for state help, applied for everything I could, but was put on a waiting list for housing and denied anything else.

A few months before we lost the house, they found more cancer during a routine hysterectomy. My breast cancer from a few years back had gone metastatic. I started treatment again, this time in pill form. Its been 14 months on the medication and I still have 10 more months to go. The medications make me tired and sore but I still work and receive SSI. And yes the landlord and the state knew about the cancer being back.

Thankfully, my family came up with a solution. A camper in the backyard of my parent's house. So myself and my 2 teenage sons moved in. Now don't get me wrong, I will forever be grateful to my family for that camper. But it was never meant to be a permanent solution. We stayed in it through 10 months of New England weather, doing the best we could. All the while still trying to find a new apartment.

Now I have finally been approved for an apartment. One that I can afford without a problem. We finally have a home waiting for us. I've paid the security deposit, so the apartment is just waiting. Waiting for the first month's rent.

So for the sake of my children, who deserve their own space while they grow I am asking for help. Help to finish securing this apartment, that way I can still afford the moving costs after the first month is paid instead of having to wait another month or two to get everything together.

My children have been so amazing and understanding through this whole thing. Only two still live at home, but my four children have had to watch their mother get divorced, fight cancer during that divorce, and become homeless while fighting cancer yet again but they never complain.
