On December 6th, Raycn was admitted to Children’s Hospital in Omaha for high bilirubin and high liver enzymes. After extensive testing and blood work, he was diagnosed with Biliary Atresia this is an extremely rare liver disease where the biliary tract and gallbladder never form. On December 9th, he underwent a nine hour surgery to correct this. While this was the only option, this surgery still has a relatively low success rate. Additionally, when the surgeon opened him up, his liver was significantly worse than they thought it would be. After consulting with a transplant surgeon at UNMC, the surgeon made the decision to go ahead with the Kasia procedure. The surgeon was able to complete the surgery, but the damage to his liver even further reduces the likelihood it will work. Which all in all means Raycn will be looking at a liver transplant at some point in his life. Additionally, Raycn experienced bleeding during surgery that required him to be given blood. After surgery due to the extent of the damage in his liver, the length of time under anesthesia and his bleeding, he was admitted to the PICU. Raycn is a fighter but he and his family have long road ahead of him. This disease will continue to affect him for the rest of his life and it will continue to be a battle. As they are stuck in the hospital for an extended stay, the one thing that we can all do to help them right now is allow them the financial security to be present and with their sweet baby and not have to worry about external things. Please consider donating as every little bit helps. Please also keep sweet baby Raycn as well as Morgan, Trish and big sister RiverLynn in your thoughts and prayers as they deal with this unimaginable situation.
