Hello-
My name is Debbie; I am writing this to tell you a story about a beautiful and caring soul, my best friend, Tish Mckenna.
On a gorgeous March afternoon this year, I received a text that read,
"I'm in the hospital. I have stage IV lung cancer and a brain tumor in my head!”
It was like hitting me with a ton of BRICKS. My best friend now has CANCER!?!
You should know that she was convinced that the tick that had bitten her weeks before was the cause of her new (now alarming) symptoms. It wasn't until she lost nearly all the feeling and use of the right side of her body; that the emergency room found cancer with an MRI and a chest x-ray.
They immediately hit the brain with three radiation sessions three days in a row. After two sessions, she could move her right arm/hand again. Currently, she has nearly full mobility back, and the tumor in the brain has shrunk from 2.3 cm to <1.0 cm.
Her right lung held up for the six weeks of Radiation therapy… 5 times a week. Thirty trips… everyday… to the hospital for Radiation. YAY!
However, the story does not end there.
We still have a very long road ahead with her lung; she is now on her fourth go around of Chemo, feeling all the side effects that we all know come with it. Partnership of California's insurance has been excellent, covering just about anything directly related to her diagnosis’(S), except most SIDE EFFECTS are not covered.
Like, for example, a dentist, when your gums are bleeding, your teeth are starting to fall out, and when your feet swell and your toes burn & you cannot stand or walk because of the pain. A hat that will fit her (giant) head.
Anyone that knows Tish knows that she has always been an independent, hard-working girl. She rarely complains and will figure “it” out rather than ask for help. Nevertheless, she had to close her business in 3/2022
So many things are NOT covered or cindered. Basic everyday stuff like …Utilities, toilet paper, gasoline etc.
Seriously, and unable to work to support yourself with newfound bills hanging in your way …
It is hard to stay focused & positive on healing.
So we have decided that it is time to ask for help.
If you cannot give financially, please let her in your prayer. If you have a prayer group, please add her.
If you are a long-time friend, just a phone call to say hello, let her know she is in your thoughts.
Every day is a struggle for us all for one reason or another, but when you freely give from your heart to another person, the gifts are endless.
Thank you all for your love and support.
God Bless.
