OUR FRIENDS NEED YOUR HELP!
They are a young Tamil couple with a 7 month old baby who have come to Australia seeking asylum. Their journey has not been easy. However, they have worked hard, made good friends, contributed to their community and been able to be self-sufficient. Sadly though, our Government makes it extremely difficult for people seeking asylum in Australia to move forward.
Our policies are harsh and unjust. Because of this they are now at risk of being returned to their home country - where they will face the very dangers they were escaping from.
They have come to Australia looking for safety and peace. Their positivity towards life, their determination to succeed and their instinctive desire to give their child the best they can have kept their hope alive.
Their case will be heard in court in one months time. This does not give them enough time to look for pro bono legal support. We have an excellent immigration lawyer who can take on their case but it will cost them $8800. It is impossible for them to save this amount of money in the given time.
Without legal support our friends would have to represent themselves. It is difficult to imagine being in a court room answering a judge’s questions and not speaking or understanding English well. It is unlikely they would win their case alone. This means it would be a very real possibility our friends would have to return to the dangers they left in their home country.
So far they have raised $2400 and we (their friends) believe that they are good people who are important contributors in our society not only economically but also socially, setting strong examples of resliance, courage and determination.
WE NEED TO RAISE $6400 AS SOON AS POSSIBLE for the lawyer to begin the process and prepare a case they deserve, where their story can be told and explained by expert immigration lawyers who understand our legal system.
Donating to helping this couple during their important legal case is a chance to show Asylum Seekers and Refugees we do care and they are not alone. It is an opportunity to help innocent people, who deserve to be able to live in safety in our country.
