In brief, my father at age 55, has been diagnosed with stage 4 terminal cancer. It started in his lungs and has now metastasized throughout his entire body. It’s currently eating away at his stomach and liver at a highly aggressive pace, leaving him with a prognoses of less than 6 months to live. This was the man that was suppose to be the best man at my wedding, and to be the grandfather of my future children. He had so much life left to live that he’ll never be able to. This is especially devastating for us since he has been living in Florida for the past couple of years and faces the possibility of dying all alone. My family and I refused to let that happen so we figured out a way to get him back to New York where he belongs, surrounded by his friends and family. Unfortunately he was homeless and penniless in Florida. He does not have any health insurance and cannot apply for Medicaid in New York until he becomes a NY resident again. Even still this could take several weeks for the Medicaid application to go through, especially with the high volume of applicants caused by coronavirus. He needs constant medical care as he can barely walk without falling down. Our only option is to pay for the Hospice care, up front and out of pocket. The up front fee is $$5,600 and then charges of $400 per day. Then of course there will be the funeral/burial costs. With most of us being out of work we cannot afford what we need to make him comfortable in these last months of his life. As I’m wiping the tears from my face writing this, I’m asking for your help. Any donation no matter how small will go to providing my father with the end of life treatment he needs while he makes the painful transition from this world to the next. I cannot put into words what your generosity and compassion would mean to my family and I. You taking the time to read this is in itself a wonderful thing to us. Thank you in advance. God bless and stay safe.
