1 yr Old Kitty Needs Emergency Surgery. Save Luna's Legs!

Hi there everyone, my name is Nadia, I am a wife and mother, a rescuer of cats, and sentimental lover of all living creatures, and I want thank you for taking the time to read our story. We have never done this before, but we are forced to make a plea for funds to be used for the emergency surgery and after-care of our one year old kitty, Miss Lady Luna Asparagus the Furst, who dragged herself home with two broken hind legs earlier this week. She accidentally got outside one night last week and came back with her horrid injuries. We suspect that our sweetie was hit by a car as she also had what looked like road rash on her tummy. Unfortunately, these are not minor fractures that could heal on their own. I have to put on my BRAVE-AND-TOTALLY-CAPABLE-ADULT face for our daughter, or she could spiral, but I just feel like I’m dying inside. Luna is so special to us, and I wish everyone could experience the amazing feeling of having an animal’s complete trust and love for them.

The good news is that we have found a couple orthopedic veterinary surgeons that are confident they can fix both her legs, but the price is still too high for us to manage. With the cost of living these days, and mortgage and bills, we are just not able to have any sort of emergency fund, much to our dismay. We could pay it off slowly, but veterinary bills require complete payment upon discharge. So we are stuck in a gut-wrenching position of either being able to afford our home expenses and groceries this month, or paying for our baby kitty’s necessary surgery. 0/5 I do not recommend this situation!

Miss Lady Luna Asparagus the Furst is an 8-pound lioness with an acrobatic flair, and the scream of a banshee. If banshees were adorable and purred very loudly. Her name was a collaboration of ideas with our 5-year-old [human], and she is most fiercely loved by all. Luna can instantly purr from a single touch, and smiles with her eyes. She can nap the day away until it’s fishing pole feather or laser pointer time, and then she’s doing 6-foot flips in the air or leaping to run sideways on the wall for several strides (Purrkour!) She also has the cutest mischievous streak, she’s figured out how to open cabinent doors, and when she’s discovered will instantly stop and sashay over to you with a loud meow that says, “Oh hiiiiiiii, what are you doing here? I certainly wasn’t doing anything!”

We also have her rescued mother, Faerie Moth, and two huge and brawny ‘little’ brothers, also one year olds, both pushing 14 pounds, Del the Funky Feline, and Emerson Tater Sauce III, who have the tiniest squeaky meows. We joke that Luna took all the voice, while they took all the mass.

Little Luna is absolutely determined to not let this get her down. Besides barrel crawling everywhere, and being able to use a modified easy access litterbox on her own, she also likes to think that her broken limbs are merely a scratch! I set up a cat recovery ward in a quiet room, but she was not having that. We woke up to discover that she somehow made it up onto our 3 foot high bed, and was cuddling peacefully with us and her mom and brothers! She is young and healthy, her hips/pelvis is just fine, it’s just these pesky legs that are the trouble. Any funds raised are simply going to her surgery cost, and her pain management/after-care.

The cost breakdown and what we have been quoted is as follows: The urgent care we first took Luna to quoted us , "$7,000 for surgically fixing one leg, at least $10K for both." After my heart made it back up to my chest after dropping to my stomach, they referred us to a couple other places. Tanasbourne ER gave us the cheapest quote, and soothed my frayed nerves by saying they were "confident they could surgically fix both legs costing between $3500-4300." So $3500-4300 is going straight to her surgery, and then whatever is left over from that, between $700-1500 would be spent on her after care medications, any splints or bandages that we would need while she recovers, easy to digest food and supplements, litter, and perhaps a new toy for my brave girl. If you are able to give anything, or even share this with friends and family, thank you, thank you, from the bottom of our hearts.

FYI: After this sentence will be a few of her x-rays, just so you know, in case you'd really rather not see her poor broken bones. They make me shudder every time I see them
