Ready for Rescue

Tiger was dumped at the NYC-ACC shelter on February 18th (#55150). All this 10-year-old boy ever knew was a warm home and the trust of someone who left him. In his previous home, he was shy, but would warm up with time. With strangers, Tiger was scared. At the shelter, Tiger was terrified. He would hide in fear, pressed up against the back of his kennel. Within in a week, Tiger had an upper respiratory infection, diarrhea, and severe blistering on his paws and in his mouth. The shelter vet said he had never seen blisters so severe. On February 24th, Tiger was placed on the euthanasia list and was in bad shape. Ready For Rescue stepped up for Tiger, when no one else would.

Tiger was sent to Manhattan Cat Specialists, where he has been receiving extensive medical treatment for E. coli, Methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA),  Enterococcus faecalis, Beta-haemolytic streptococcus, and inappetence. He is on a feeding tube and receiving daily bandage changes for his paws. Tiger is going to need to remain in vet care until his paws are healed, he is eating on his own, and he tests negative for his many ailments. His bill is already $1500 and climbing daily.

A staff person at ACC saw something special in Tiger and wrote this sweet bio for him. Please help us find him a great home to go to, once he is healed:  "My name is Tiger, but I am not a very brave tiger. In fact, I want to learn how to be brave again so that I can prance and show off how handsome I am. Would you please help me earn my stripes back? If you take me, I promise I will do my very best to roar my love again."

Sweet tabby boy Mr. Katt needs emergency surgery. This adorable senior has a history of urinary blockages and is having trouble going to the bathroom. Blockages are very serious and can cause  kidney failure and death within 24-48 hours. When this lovable guy needed his family the most, instead of seeking vet care, they dumped him at the ACC-NYC shelter on (Katt #53334).

Due to the urgency of Mr. Katt’s condition, he was immediately placed at risk. With only minutes to spare, Ready For Rescue stepped in and gave this boy a chance. 

Mr. Katt was rushed to Queens Animal Health, where he is receiving fluids and antibiotics and is urinating via a temporary catheter. However, this is painful and he is miserable. Considering his blockage history, and to avoid ever having to go through this again, Mr. Katt is scheduled for Perineal Urethrostomy surgery (a.k.a.PU surgery) tomorrow, Wednesday, January 30th. Urinary obstruction has various causes and is oftentimes seen in male cats, especially obese cats (Mr. Katt is a hearty 18 pounds!), since males have a small urethra. PU surgery, simply put, involves opening the urethra to allow more room for urination.

His surgery is estimated to be $2000 and we (and Mr. Katt) need your help. Ready For Rescue routinely takes in cats and dogs from ACC’s Emergency Pleas and At Risk List, animals that would otherwise be euthanized. Many of these animals need extensive medical vetting with high costs. Please help Ready For Rescue help Mr. Katt with his long overdue surgery and aftercare. Following Mr. Katt’s surgery, he will also need an experienced and loving cat foster. This boy needs a home where he can both physically and emotionally heal, and where he feels safe and loved again. In his previous home, Mr. Katt was a friendly, affectionate, and confident cat. He greeted strangers, was relaxed and playful with children, and got along with both cats and dogs. At home, he enjoyed catnips toys, played fetch, and slept on his owner’s bed. And despite his urinary issues, he always used his litter box, ever the true gentleman. UPDATE: Goldie is doing great post surgery for his leg fracture. It was a very complicated surgery (his bones were crumbling as they were inserting the pins. But they were able to stabilize the injury. This surgery alone was $6,000. He needs to go back and have his de-gloving repaired. Then, he will be recuperating at our vet for at least a month. Our new estimate for his care will be $12,000. Goldie continues to amaze purring loudly while getting chin scratches and leaning in for head butts. 


Goldie is an inspiration. He wound up at the NYC shelter after being mauled by a dog. He sustained severe injuries resulting in a compound fracture of his hind leg and a de-gloving injury (where the fur, skin and tissue are torn off) to a front leg. We rescued him and brought him to our vet. Each injury required hours of disinfecting and triage each day. Once stabilized, he will now need reconstructive surgery on both limbs at a speciality hospital where is today. 

Despite these threatening injuries and extreme pain, Goldie has been attention seeking -- even to the point of laying on his back for belly rubs. His amazing disposition and spirit are why we are utterly committed to helping him recover -- but we need your support. HIs medical care will be anywhere from $6,000-$8,000 and will require two months of hospitalization. All funds go directly to his vet care.
