Kauai SPCA

Aloha- I’m April and I trap stray, scared dogs and try to find them homes. This adorable duo (plus another puppy) were living at Kekaha landfill where I trapped them both. The other puppy ran off scared and has yet to be caught, but I’m still trying. The older guy has quite the list of medical needs- very bad ear infections, an infected tooth that needs pulling, unknown lumps that need diagnosing through ultrasound and bloodwork, and hip dysplasia or arthritis. We are working through this list one item at a time, and he will also need to be neutered once he’s healthy enough for anaesthesia. I am trying to fundraise to help Kauai SPCA pay for his medical care. And trust me, he’s worth it. He is the most chill, mellow, sweet guy. He loves other dogs. He loves small walks and sniffing. He’s happy in his crate. I can’t wait u til he’s feeling much better and his personality comes out even more. The amount needed will change as we learn more at the vet and I will update everything here. These funds will also be used to cover all medical care and neuter of the other puppy (if/ when I’m able to catch it) bc KSPCA doesn’t have the resources to help 3 dogs at once. Aloha- I’m raising money to help my foster dog, Huna, fly to Seattle where he will be transferred to Dog Gone Seattle and have a better chance at finding a forever home than on this little island. The funds will help Kauai SPCA with the cost of the crate, flight, health certificate, rabies vaccine and heartworm test. Transfers are an integral part of dog rescue here on Kauai and I’m so grateful to DGS for taking in some of our dogs and KSPCA for facilitating the transfer. Huna is set to fly out Oct 2 if you want to come give him some love and well wishes before then. ❤️ Thank you

Anela (Angel in Hawaiian):

Anela's Story:

This poor girl was shot in the head at point-blank range and left to die. Through her amazing strength and bravery, she survived the bullet to her head. A caring visitor called the officers who had a big part in saving her life. Anela was brought to KHS and transferred to KSPCA immediately, rushed to the local clinic where she received lifesaving EMG care. She was in EMG care for two long weeks.

Her doctor discovered that the bullet had entered through her skull, traveled through the hard palate and tongue, then shattered the mandible (lower jaw bone) before exiting below her jaw. Anela was unable to use her tongue or jaw so a feeding tube was placed.

With the exceptional care of her vet and the clinic staff, Anela slowly started to respond to supportive care and even started to wag her tail and enjoy affection. It’s truly a miracle that she survived such an act of cruelty. After two long weeks in critical care at the clinic, she was released into a loving foster home where they continued her tube feeding and care until she was strong enough to undergo surgery.

An orthopedic surgeon was brought to Kauai from Oahu to perform her jaw reconstructive surgery. Anela is currently in a loving foster home where she continues to be fed with a feeding tube and gets stronger and happier every day.

Anela is worth every penny, but her medical bills have been astronomical and it has put a strain on our budget. Kauai SPCA is a non-profit that provides a second chance for Kauai animals facing homelessness or euthanasia due to age, medical or financial issues. Help us with Anela's bills so we can continue to save more angels like her.
