<div>The name Peaceful Warrior Farm reflects a part of my own journey, and is meant to honor the determination, resilience, and care that farmers practice every day.
</div>

</div>
<div>A warrior is often imagined as someone who fights. But over the years, I have come to believe that some of the most important battles are waged through patience, respect, and perseverance.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>After being discharged from the military for being gay, I found myself struggling with depression, feeling completely alone, and searching for purpose, belonging, and a place where I could rebuild my life.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong><em>I found that place on a farm and in the fields, and it saved my life.</em></strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Through farming, I discovered that healing happens much like a garden grows; slowly, season by season. Over many years, the land has taught me resilience. It taught me humility. It taught me the value of showing up every day to care for something larger than yourself. I believe that is something worth saving.

<div>For more than 20 years, I have dedicated my life to organic farming, helping grow food for my community while serving as a steward of the land. For me and many of the farmers I know, this is not simply a job; it is a calling, a vocation rooted in deep respect for the land, the environment, and the communities we serve.

<div>Peaceful Warrior Farm is raising funds to permanently preserve productive Vermont farmland, while also building the initial infrastructure needed to begin growing food.  Now that we have become the stewards of this land, we are now working closely with Vermont Land Trust to conserve this gorgeous land.

<div>We envision a farm where fresh fruits and vegetables are grown using organic and regenerative practices, wildlife habitat is enhanced, pollinators are protected, and future generations can experience a meaningful connection to the land.

<div>We see a farm that not only feeds our community with nutritious produce, but also shares a portion of its harvest with local food pantries and other organizations, helping increase access to healthy food for all of our neighbors.

<div>Due to pressures from development, large scale commercial projects, and especially data centers, rapidly increasing land values are making it extremely difficult for working farmers like me to secure permanent access to affordable farmland. For many—especially those without substantial financial resources, or generational wealth—the dream of owning and caring for a piece of farmland is increasingly out of reach.

<div>In my 20 years of farming, I have witnessed and lived these experiences firsthand. In Vermont and across our country, the loss of affordable land and the many financial barriers facing working farmers represent one of the most urgent challenges confronting agriculture, our environment, and our food security today.

Do we want our landscapes developed by massive distribution and data centers, using up vital natural resources, damaging our environment, and taking over productive farmland? <div>I have no symptoms except for the lump I found 2 months ago, which is the reason I arrived at this diagnosis. So sometimes, I forget that there is something I need to cure. This might be a blessing so I can live a normal life!

<div>My life has changed A LOT since I gave birth to Nami only 6 months ago. I was "just" getting the hang of breastfeeding and being a stay-at-home mom. It's been so much fun watching Nami grow!

<div>Now, I have to suddenly start the weaning process to stop breastfeeding since chemo will make the milk unsafe to drink for Nami. It makes me sad thinking about the last time I would get to breastfeed Nami.

<div>Now, I have to accept that it is very unlikely that I will be able to get pregnant again if I want to prioritize my health. There are many factors like my age (39), the cancer is estrogen-positive, I'm BRCA1 positive, and I decided not to pursue freezing my eggs (it will delay my treatment &amp; too high of a cost) before chemo.

<div>We are raising funds to send our beloved teenager Maathai to an LGBTQ+ leadership camp in southern California.  We are so incredibly excited for this opportunity for Maathai to attend Camp Brave Trails, in part because Maathai has spent the past year learning a great deal about social justice, activism, and advocacy.

<div>Since entering their teen years (M is now 14), they have become deeply connected to their non-binary identity and to engaging issues of gender, queer rights, and challenging transphobia and all homophobic expressions. They participate in LGBTQ peer groups here in Asheville, follow queer voices on social media, and read books and 'zines dedicated to themes affecting the LGBTQ community (especially for middle- and high school age youth).

<div>This 9-day summer camp will be held in the San Bernadino National Forest in Southern California in late June. Rima, M's mom, will accompany them from North Carolina to California. We are raising funds to afford the camp and round trip travel costs for Maathai.

<p>Hurricane Ida has massively impacted our downtown, but there are families in Millburn who have lost everything.  Their homes are uninhabitable, and all their possessions are covered in sewage - these families have children to care for, clothe and feed.  Since their homes are not in a flood zone they are not covered by homeowner's insurance and their losses will not be reimbursed. We are asking for assistance financing temporary rental housing, gutting and rebuilding their homes while they navigate the devastating aftermath.  WE ARE their only disaster relief! Any donations will help tremendously.<br /><br />This amazing community has already helped to raise over $50,000 to help these families through this campaign.  To continue the effort, a benefit concert has been organized featuring Los Lobos.  Please continue to give.<br /><br />This funds for this campaign are being administered by the law firm of Harold Poltrock and a grant system created by volunteers from the community with finance backgrounds.

Substantial damage to their home will be displacing them in the coming weeks, potentially months with their 2 children (7yo and 4yo). <br /><br />While they stayed in their home that night with their 2 kids, they assisted saving 2 separate families from their car on their street. <br /><br />Since March 2020, they faced many challenges beginning with living and working in NYC at the beginning of the pandemic. Rachael worked up until she developed long haul symptoms after contracting COVID-19 in April 2020. She has been home raising their two children and navigating them through virtual school. <br /><br />Rachael and Jesse have been working with the town police and engineers to mitigate unsafe traffic and road conditions in their South Mountain neighborhood. In early August, directly in front of their home, their son was riding his scooter crossing the street when a local driver accelerated around another car. The driver made contact with the scooter and very fortunately their son with exceptional reaction times, jumped off. <br /><br />
</p>

<p>When Ida hit, Rachael and Jesse were recovering with the Delta variant of COVID-19. Thankfully, their children are very asymptomatic, thank the lawwwd. 
</p>

Help the Lerner-Schachter Family Rebuild Home

<p>Hi, My name is Chaitanya and I'm fundraising for my friend and neighbors - Mishra family.
</p>

<p>On the night of Sept 1st 9pm like many families, my friend was putting kids to bed while her husband was on a volunteer call planning annual soccer games for school kids. They got jolted when fire alarm started beeping in basement. To their dis-belief, their whole basement was completely flooded and water was gushing to entertainment area where TV/sofas/all things were all floating in water. Looking out the window their car outside was fully sub-merged in river flood water. In another 30min by 9:30pm, the water filled yet another level and entered kitchen. Nowhere to escape and emergency services overwhelmed with similar stories, they waited for hours hoping the rain to stop, Rahway river water to recede and praying dirty water doesn't reach their final and only level left.
</p>

<p>Fortunately, the rain stopped at 1am and river water receded around 6am. They were able to get their kids out of house to safety. It took another 2 days for the visible water to be cleared from basement, backyard.
</p>

<p>The aftermath is even more devastating - They lost stuff in all 3 floors. Demolition is needed for all 3 floors to avoid mold and side effects of unsafe and sedimented water in the house. Their efforts to salvage anything was vain. They also lost every single major appliance in the house.
</p>

<p>The house was not in flood zone and was lacking flood insurance. While the family is going through the emotional stress and trauma, let us at least support them financially to get them back. Any funds raised will be given to family to help them recover and rebuild.
</p>

Help family recover from Hurricane Ida flood

<p>Hi, My name is Meeta Aggarwal and I am fundraising for my friend Yakshi Goyal. She and her family have been devastated by Ida within a matter of 2 hours. 12 ft (approx.) of sewage water entered house within a matter of minutes. While she is thankful that all her family survived eventually, those were the most traumatic 120 mins of her life.  She was majorly scared for her young children,  old parent's and young puppy's life and safety. This family has been hit extremely hard during already harsh COVID time.  They have lost 3 floors and all stuff in it - Garage, both cars, Heating, Cooling, Dishwasher, Laundry and Dryer, Basement, Entertainment, all the food and supplies, lots of furniture, all the woollen clothing, precious keepsakes and family pictures. Their house is completely infected and needs to be restored. While she rehabilitates, she has to ensure that her kids feel some sense of normalcy while they also recover from the trauma of fear of drowning every time it rains. While we can not bring back her keepsakes, let us help her by supporting her financially.

<p>Hi everyone. My name is Jesus Nunez -- some of you may know me as a local artist. I've been extremely proud and lucky to have received the support of many Summit residents who have purchased my original artwork over the past year. For those who don't know me, I am a professional chef-turned-artist who decided to reinvent himself when COVID hit last year and I lost my job. I chose to turn a bad situation into an opportunity, and pursue a longtime passion and hobby. I was successful in making a name for myself locally and selling enough artwork to help fund my next project: opening a local art gallery in Millburn, NJ. I invested all of my earnings and a large part of my savings into a space on Millburn Avenue that required renovations, with plans to open by mid-September. Last night due to the terrible rains and flooding that resulted from the remnants of Hurricane Ida, the art gallery was flooded with 4FT of water, and all of the work completed to date (new floors, walls, staircase) plus everything that I had in storage in the basement (lighting fixtures, wall fixtures, etc.) was destroyed. I'm asking for any donations or help that you may be able to offer to re-start the process of renovating the space with the hope of opening before the holidays. If you are a carpenter, handyman, or painter and have available time to help me fix the damage, please contact me directly. On November 20th my only brother was taken away from my family. Devin was only 30 years old when he was murdered in Atlanta, Georgia. He brought a lot of laughter to people. All he ever wanted was for everyone to get along and love one another, to bring his visions and creations to life. My mother, Michelle Lucas, wants a proper burial for my brother. Unfortunately, we did not have life insurance for my brother so we need help. 4,500 would allow us to ship him home and 10,000 would allow us to have a service and bury him. <p><br />As some of you may know, my mom just recently got diagnosed with stage 4 glioblastoma brain  cancer. With it being a very aggressive brain cancer the prognosis is not that great, and she has hopefully a couple good years left to bless us with her love, happiness and positive attitude. Unfortunately this situation has required her to retire early, and she still has bills to pay and also has a few things she’d like to do while she still can. As you all know life isn’t cheap, so I’m asking for anything big or small that any of you feel you might be able to contribute so that she can enjoy the rest of her time to the fullest. Thank you all for supporting my mom, as all of you who have even met her once, know that she is the kindest and sweetest person on earth and would do the same for each and every one of you in a heartbeat.
