They've endured months without food, a stable home, or access to basic necessities like water. Muhannad, once employed in electrical work, has been unable to find steady income since the war began. The family relies on precarious water sources, with Bayan often waiting in lines to collect water.

My father provided me with the best possible means to achieve my dream of being an outstanding student, which filled me with enthusiasm and joy. I have also been busy with other activities like singing, drawing and swimming. My life was full of joy and warmth until October 7, 2023, when everything became terribly different.

<div>My family home was destroyed, and I have been suffering from a nervous breakdown ever since. My father lost his source of income when his business became a pile of rubble. But miraculously, my family and I escaped death.

<div>Israeli air strikes and bombing caused panic for me and my family. We could not bear the sound of huge explosions that sounded like recurring earthquakes and red flames sweeping through the area. We were forced to move to southern Gaza on the orders of Israeli forces, leaving our beautiful apartments. We went to the UN refugee school in the Nuseirat area first to escape horror and death. We stumbled into a different life full of suffering on every side, living the most painful hell of war. I became thin because of polluted water, lack of hygiene, the spread of infectious diseases, and the lack of suitable medicine.

<div>The situation is catastrophic. “There is nothing left in Gaza but death. Even death has become a privilege because it provides a feeling of comfort.” My younger sister Lana and I begged my father to travel out of Gaza, but it was very difficult because it was very expensive, and my father lost all of his possessions during the war, including his tools for working as home electricians and his apartment, which was completely destroyed. Therefore, he has nothing to help us travel outside Gaza, and there is no safe place in the Gaza Strip. I pray every moment for an end to this war and a ceasefire. The ceasefire is not just a call; It is a desperate cry for an end to the helplessness and despair that spread around every corner. We escape death every day and then wake up the next morning to try to escape it again. My heart is heavy, unable to bear the recurring nightmares, the overwhelming floods of news of blood, loss, destruction and despair pouring out of Gaza. Every minute feels like a struggle. No one should have to endure this. I lost my uncle, my father's brother, in the war, which increased our fear of the future.

<div><strong>My name is Lana,</strong> I'm only four years old, and I never thought I would witness an attack this cruel, with such complete disregard for basic human values. I am deprived of basic rights, including education and health. I need to rebuild my broken life outside of Gaza with my family and help us get better healthcare and travel. It will cost at least 5000€ just to get out of Gaza so we can dream of pursuing our rights to a better education system and healthcare.

<div>Hazem and Yasmine once called Gaza home—a place where they laughed, dreamed, and built a life together. Today, they stand amid the ruins of that life. Their house is gone. Not a single brick remains. The neighborhood they knew—the bustling markets, the olive trees, the faces of neighbors—has vanished. War left only rubble, dust, and a chilling silence.

Gaza’s winters are brutal, and without electricity, fuel, or even a proper tent, they huddle under a plastic sheet, their breath frosting in the air. <strong>Clean water is a myth.</strong> What little they find is polluted, forcing them to gamble their health with every sip. Food prices have skyrocketed: a single egg costs 2, a bag of rice 2, a bag of rice25. Hunger is their constant companion.

They sleep on frozen ground, their bodies aching, their hope fraying.

<div><span style="font-family:inherit;font-size:1rem;color:inherit;">Hello, my name is Mohamed Abdel Karim Al-Ajla, and I'm from Gaza City. I studied engineering at Al-Azhar University in Gaza. My family and I lived happily in a beautiful home. Our simple life was completely destroyed when our house was bombed on October 27, 2023 (photos below). We lost everything.</span>

<div><span style="font-family:inherit;font-size:1rem;color:inherit;">My family—my wife, my four children, my father, my mother, my sister, and my two brothers—first fled to a house outside Shuja'iyya, then to Nuseirat Refugee Camp, where we rented a house that was also bombed. My family and I were caught in an Israeli attack, and civil defense and ambulance crews rushed to our aid. We were taken to Al-Awda Hospital in Nuseirat for treatment. Twenty-seven people were killed in this attack.  We miraculously survived numerous encounters with death. I always dreamed of becoming a world-class computer engineer and programmer, but the war shattered my dreams and those of my family.</span>

<div><span style="font-family:inherit;font-size:1rem;color:inherit;"><br /></span>
</div>
<div><span style="font-family:inherit;font-size:1rem;color:inherit;">I worked for a software company here in Gaza, but the Israeli occupation destroyed everything. I was in good health and had many satisfied clients when the genocide began. After our house was bombed, I lost my laptop, my clients, and my livelihood. We then went to al-Bureij refugee camp, where my brother-in-law's house was hit by more than forty shells. We contacted the Red Cross and Civil Defense, but to no avail. We left alone under the occupation's artillery fire, walking about ten kilometers until we reached al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah. The hospital was then threatened, and the occupation army ordered us to leave. We fled to Rafah. After living without shelter for seven days on the streets of Rafah, we were given tents and then ordered to evacuate the city. We were displaced to the central region.  We built a new tent and started a new life from scratch, with only a bag for each of us. Our children are suffering from the cold and hunger, we lack hygiene supplies, we drink contaminated water, and we don't have enough food, which only adds to our suffering. The war was devastating, and we face immense hardship. We fear an imminent invasion by the Israeli army.</span>

My father, Abdul Karim, is 67 years old, my mother, Khitam, is 59, my brothers, Mahmoud, 20, and Abdul Aziz, 16, and my sister, Maryam, 22.</span>

Help Mohammed's family rebuild their lives

<div>Hi, I am Hatem Al-Najjar. I live in Gaza with my wife and five children, my mother, father, sister, and brother. We have been displaced many times and now live in a small tent. We have been forced to eat animal feed for the last fifty days because there is no food available. We are being starved to death and do not have fresh water. Everyone is getting ill with hepatitis and now there is polio in the water. We are being bombed daily and have no ability to get money for food.

<div><strong>Food, medicine, and supplies, if available, are extremely expensive.</strong> For example, a mango is 15 Euros per pound. A tent costs 2000 Euros. We have been almost completely abandoned by the world, except for some healthcare workers who come in for some weeks on a rotating basis to help out with little to no supplies nor medicine. We are truly in the most devastating situation a human being can experience.

<div>So I bid farewell to my home and hoped that the angels of heaven would protect what was left of it, but we received news that it had become a place where only the hills were stationed and when they got up and left it, they did not care about any fatigue.

<div>My life used to feel like a beautifully woven tapestry: a warm home, a loving family, and the simple joys of togetherness. Each day was a blessing, filled with love, laughter, and hope for a brighter future. We were grateful for the peace we had, never imagining how quickly it could all be torn apart.

<div>Our home in Gaza was bombed, reducing it to rubble in the blink of an eye. The safety, memories, and warmth that once defined our lives were gone. In the chaos, we fled to southern Gaza with nothing but the clothes on our backs, stepping into a life of unimaginable hardship.

<div>I lost two of my beloved sisters and their children in the bombing. Their absence has left a wound in my heart that will never heal. To make matters worse, another sister and her children remain trapped in northern Gaza, where I cannot reach them. I don’t know if they’re safe—or even alive. This uncertainty weighs on me every single day.

<div>Now, I live with my husband and three children in a makeshift tent. This tent offers no protection from the blistering summer heat, the biting winter cold, or the relentless rain that seeps through its fragile fabric. It’s not a home—it’s a constant reminder of what we’ve lost.

<div>We lack the basic necessities:

</div>

<div>Enough food to nourish my children

</div>

<div>Access to healthcare when we fall ill

<div>Despite this, God gave me a glimmer of hope amidst the darkness. During the war, I gave birth to my daughter, Wateen, who joined her siblings, Bassam and Leen, as beacons of light in these trying times. My children are my strength, my reason to wake up every day and keep fighting for a better future.

My child and I, along with my family, were forced to flee, leaving behind everything we loved and knew to stay alive and seek safety.
