<div>Help Bring Makayla Home: Recovery After a Devastating Accident in Italy

</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<div>Hello everyone,

</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<div>I am creating this GoFundMe for two dear friends who are in urgent need of support from their community.

</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<div>While celebrating Corey and Makenzie Miller's wedding on the Amalfi Coast, four friends were traveling down to their rooms to get ready for the wedding later that evening when tragedy struck. The golf cart they were riding in suffered a mechanical failure, and the brakes stopped working. In a split-second act of courage, Parker was able to steer the cart away from a cliff edge, likely saving multiple lives in the process.

</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<div>Despite his heroic actions, his wife, Makayla, sustained severe injuries in the crash.

</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<div>Makayla was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, where a team of medical professionals, including an obstetrician, as she is approximately 16 weeks pregnant with their first child was waiting to care for her. Due to the severity of her injuries, she was later airlifted to another medical facility. Unfortunately, the region has limited access to major trauma centers, and she requires a higher level of specialized care than is currently available.

</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<div>At this time, Makayla cannot travel home on a commercial flight because of the extent of her injuries. Her injuries include multiple pelvic fractures involving the entire pelvic ring, a tailbone fracture, a hip fracture, an L5 vertebral fracture, significant facial bruising, and extensive road rash to her leg.

</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<div>For our medical friends and family, her injuries include:

</div>

<div>- Diastasis of the pubic symphysis

</div>

<div>- Right pubic rami fracture

</div>

<div>- Left sacral and coccyx fractures

</div>

<div>- L5 transverse process fracture with a fracture involving the vertebral body

</div>

<div>- Acetabular fracture

</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<div>Parker and Makayla remain in a foreign country, navigating a complex medical situation while facing language barriers and uncertainty. While they are grateful for the care they have received, we all know there is no place like home, surrounded by family, friends, and a trusted medical team.

</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<div>The financial burden of this accident extends far beyond the immediate emergency. Medical transportation, ongoing treatment, rehabilitation, lost income, and the long road to recovery ahead will create significant challenges. Our hope is to ease some of that burden so they can focus entirely on healing.

</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<div>To our medical community: Makayla is an incredible nurse with a heart of gold. She has dedicated her career to caring for others during some of the most difficult moments of their lives. We know how frightening and overwhelming serious injuries can be. Now, one of our own needs our support. While we may not be able to provide her hands-on care, we can help ensure she receives the resources she needs to get home and continue her recovery.

</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<div>To our education community: Parker is a dedicated educator who pours his heart into caring for and guiding his students every day. Right now, however, his focus needs to be on caring for his wife and their unborn baby. While much of this support is for Makayla's medical recovery, we also hope to ease the financial strain on Parker so he can be by her side every step of the way.

</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<div>To our animal-loving community: Parker and Makayla are preparing to become first-time parents, but they are already devoted parents to their three beloved Alaskan Malamutes Mallow, Max, and Maya. In one of the first conversations we had with Makayla after the accident, she said, "I miss my babies." She deserves to be home with the people and animals she loves most.

</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<div>Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to read their story. Whether you are able to donate, share this fundraiser, or simply keep Parker, Makayla, and their baby in your thoughts and prayers, your support means more than you know.

</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<div>Please share this far and wide. This Spokane-area family needs their community right now, and I know we can come together to help bring Makayla home.

Bring Makayla Home to Spokane

Hi everyone, Fred, a 62 years old veteran, a son, a dad, a friend and a drummer has cancer and doctors have given him weeks to live. He is struggling to keep basic comfort and a roof above his head with no health insurance and inability to work. <br /><br />He never expected to be in this situation at this age. His mom, daughter and friends just want him to be comfortable and have a dignified end. <br /><br />Please pray and help anyway you can. <br /><br />God bless.

Veteran Fred

<div>Meet Hayward.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Margi first learned about Hayward last night around 9:30pm. She received a call that there was a senior homeless man living out of his car in Davie.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Upon making phone contact with him, she learned he was a veteran. She immediately made calls to get him assistance and continued to work on his case throughout the afternoon today.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>After closing the closet this evening, she drove out to where he was parked to bring him food and meet him personally. What she was about to witness was unimaginable.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Hayward was frail, appeared to be suffering from malnutrition and was distraught. Upon arrival, she realized that he was in survival mode. Not only was he homeless, he couldn’t move his vehicle due to a bad tire. Hayward informed her he had been homeless since May. He showed her his military ID and drivers license. He will be 80 years old next month and was in the US ARMY where he served 3 tours in the Vietnam War.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>As she stood there with him, he thanked her for the conversation and shared with her that he missed talking with people. She asked him if he had family or friends who knew what was happening. His response to her was that he had watched his loved ones all pass away and that he was alone in this world. At that moment, he broke down crying, put his head on her shoulder, and wept. Through his tears, he said to her: ‘I am scared to death”.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>There was no way she was going to have this man sleep one more night in his car. She was not waiting on veteran services or anyone else - immediate action needed to take place, right then and there. He did not want to go to a hospital to get checked out - he wanted to sleep in a bed. For 4 months this man that served our country slept in a car and bathed with baby wipes. In his frail condition and deteriorating health he has struggled to navigate any veteran services.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>She reached out to her Co-Director, local law enforcement and 3 additional Veteran resources and we all agreed we needed to get him off the street’s immediately. She called to have his tire repaired and they headed north and checked him into a hotel. Where he could sleep in a bed, take a shower and no longer fear the elements.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>We firmly believe services will be put into place for him swiftly and he will receive the help he needs to regain his life as he deserves. Until then we areasking this group to help us raise some money to help him get back on his feet. Hayward is humble and kind and doesn’t want much of anything.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>When asking Hayward what else he may need he said: I miss having someone to talk to. I would like a friend.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to Margi Bre via messenger at The Legacy Closet or Tracie Catalano at Mary Ann's Closet.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Thank you in advance.
