<div>Yesterday afternoon, as our crew was preparing to head home, a fire broke out at Oshala Farm.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>All our people and pets made it to safety, everything else did not. Within moments our entire dryer barn was engulfed in flames. The fire spread to our storage barn, our secondary dryer and our employee area, mechanic shop, and coolers.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The heroic local and regional firefighters came in fiercely with dozens of trucks and helicopters and saved what they could and prevented the fire from spreading to more buildings or to neighboring properties. Unfortunately, even with their best efforts, we lost nearly everything we’ve built over the last 13 years here at the farm. The fire was just too large and the hot to stop it.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>We've lost all of our inventory, hundreds of thousands of pounds of herbs, some of which take multiple years to grow. Additionally, the fire took all of the infrastructure we need to dry, process, and get these beautiful plants out of the ground and into your homes. The loss is unbearable and feels insurmountable, but we hope that with your help we can rebuild what we’ve lost, both physically and emotionally.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Oshala Farm is more than Elise and Jeff, it is a team of highly skilled and passionate people, most of whom have been with us for over a decade. We're a family farm, and we employ nearly 40 full-time year round employees and another 20 seasonal workers, our dedicated and devoted team are at the top of our mind. Together, we have built Oshala Farm into what it is today and without them we wouldn't be able to provide all the incredible herbs we do. We met with our incredible team this morning and as a group we agreed that we will rebuild and persevere.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The good news is our fields are full of herbs, and thanks to the fast action of our team we were able to move almost all of our tractors and equipment out of harms way. The bad news is we have lost all of our drying, storage and cold storage facilities, as well as our processing equipment, a few tractors and most of our tools.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>To ask for help at this time is humbling, with your donation we will begin the rebuilding our processing facilities, rebuying equipment, and keeping our amazing team working while we figure out what to do next.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Our goal is to get as many herbs from the field to our customers as possible this year. Without all of your amazing support of these last 13 years we would not be here today. We appreciate each and every one of you, and the outpouring of love from the community has meant so much to us. With your help we are confident Oshala Farm will be here to provide herbs for you for many, many years into the future.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Elise, Jeff, and the rest of our team.

Help rebuild Oshala Farm after devastating fire

<div>My brother Jay has been fighting for his life in the ICU. Over the past five days, he has faced major organ failure affecting his heart, liver, and kidneys. Through immense strength and resilience, he has made an incredible comeback, but his journey is far from over.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Jay will need extensive medical care and support in the days and months ahead. The cost of his treatment, rehabilitation, and ongoing care is a heavy burden for us, and any help, big or small, will make a significant difference.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Please consider donating to help Jay focus on his recovery without the stress of overwhelming medical expenses. Your support, thoughts, and prayers mean the world to him and our family. Thank you for being a part of his journey back to health.

<div><strong>IMPORTANT UPDATE - APRIL 5, 2023:</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Dear friends,
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>With sensitivity and a degree of urgency, we are writing to update you about Leda and Ricky’s situation which greatly needs our attention and care. Please read this whole message.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Unfortunately, the chemo has not been successful and Leda is still living with the cancer and the very difficult health condition it has created for her. At the doctor’s advice, Leda has stopped chemotherapy and is now moving into home-based palliative care. The money raised so far has enabled her to get a life-saving surgery, but there have been many additional bills that they have been unable to pay. Their credit cards are maxed out and insurance will no longer pay for treatments. Further, Ricky is unable to go back to work as he needs to spend these days with Leda.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>What is needed right now is a huge campaign effort to help them raise the money they need to pay their outstanding bills, pay for palliative care, and pay for ongoing treatments and basic life necessities. It is no small number: We are aiming to raise an additional $120,000 and hopefully as soon as possible.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Leda remains optimistic and with a strong spirit. She is focused on regaining a basic balance internally that will enable her to continue living her life living pain-free with her husband. The doctor has told her that she has between six months and one year to live, and she continues to keep oriented towards the possibility of life continuing beyond then and carrying on in the best way possible. Many people continue on beyond these stated timeframes.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Please forward this on to anyone you sense would be touched by their story that has the ability to help financially or in another way––i.e. if they work with organizations that help families financially in situations like this.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>With gratitude for your attention,
</div>
<div>Leda’s friends
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>Join us in helping our beloved Leda and Ricky!</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>In July 2022, Leda was diagnosed with uterine cancer. To help foster a beautiful healing, we won't write all of the details here–instead, please understand that our friends Leda and Ricky need our help.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Leda has helped thousands of people deepen their health by teaching them about wild foraging &amp; life-giving foods they can make for themselves. She has taught generations of dancers the artistry and communicative possibilities of dance. Now, it is our turn to help her.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Two days before her 60th birthday, Leda will go into emergency surgery to have the tumor removed. Surgery is on August 4th, and her 60th is on August 6th. <strong>As a birthday gift, Leda and Ricky are asking us to donate to this fundraiser to help cover the medical expenses, and to share the fundraiser with our networks. </strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>UPDATE::::New goal is $34,500.</strong>
</div>
<div>On 8/4, Leda &amp; Ricky learned the procedure would cost $7,500 more than they originally understood. We've raised the goal of the fundraiser to reflect the increase + processing/platform fees.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Original, 8/2: The $25,750 Leda and Ricky are looking to raise covers the following:
</div>
<div>-Approximately $20,000 for the surgery in excess medical fees not covered by insurance
</div>
<div>-Approximately $5,000 for post-op recovery &amp; unanticipated fees
</div>
<div>-$750 platform/transaction fees
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>NOTE: There may be additional expenses not currently anticipated, that Leda and Ricky may find out about along the way. In that case, we will update the fundraiser goal and update you all via the blog here.</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Please keep good thoughts of Leda &amp; her healing these days. And thank you so much for donating whatever you can to help our dear friends Leda and her husband Ricky.

Help Leda on Her Healing Journey

<div>Mason and Amanda from HerbRally recently set out on a 10 day road trip to get video footage of herbal classes and interviews for their YouTube channel and SchoolHouse site.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Their trip started with excited anticipation and they were getting awesome footage along the way.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Then the unthinkable happened.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>While stopping for coffee, in the middle of the day, a group of people busted their truck window and stole everything inside.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>They stole their cameras, lenses, and laptops.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>They took every single piece of Mason’s clothing.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Even more devastatingly, they took the many hours of fresh footage they had just shot and hadn’t yet uploaded to the cloud.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Mason and Amanda are devastated.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Yes, they contacted the police. They even tried to ransom back their footage! But none of this has panned out.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Locals saw the robbery happening and tried to stop it but they said that these people are often armed. Locals also said this happens frequently to folks with out of state plates especially.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Luckily, everyone is safe. They taped up their truck window and drove home.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Mason told me that shortly after the event someone encouraged him by saying “Creativity is infinite.” Mason assured me that they are dedicated to continuing their mission to bring quality herbal information to you.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>But they need our support.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Let’s help them go from feeling devastated to feeling supported.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Whether it’s through listing local events, sharing through their podcast and YouTube channel, or offering other free herbal goodies, HerbRally has always been about building herbal community.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Let’s show them how the herbal community is willing to pitch in and help them recover from their financial loss.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>No donation is too small! I have seen small donations add up to impressive amounts time and time again.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>

Support Mason and Amanda from HerbRally

<p>Mimi Hernandez a much loved member of the herbal community is in need of our support. Mimi has been experiencing severe pain for several months and earlier this week the pain became unbearable.  <br /><br />On June 6, 2018 Mimi's wrote on her facebook page "Long arduous night at Mission Hospital ER. Surgery later today. Thank you for your good thoughts. Gallby’s finally coming out sooner than planned and he’s bursting at the seams about it. Just don’t burst inside me Gallby."<br /><br />Mimi had been trying to work with diet and natural remedies to avoid and/or postpone surgery.  On June 6th the pain was more than she was able to handle and as she says above she was hospitalized. She has had surgery and another procedure done and is now in recovery.  Recovery from any surgery takes time and rest is the best prescription. <br /><br />Like so many people Mimi does not have health coverage. She will need to pay for her surgery out of pocket. This is a position many who work in the herbal world and healing professions in general face. Mimi put this surgery off, until she was in unbearable pain and could not tolerate it any more. No one should have to endure this kind of pain, and postpone surgery that will provide relief because they do not have the financial resources to pay for it.<br /><br />Mimi is a single mother. She supports her family doing something that she loves and cares about: providing educational resources to the herbal community.  Anyone who encounters Mimi can see that she is dedicated to the plants and the people who work with them. She has given a lot and it is our turn to support her. <br /><br />As we all know working in the helping/healing professions is not a lucrative endeavor. This one hospitalization has the capacity to create incredible amounts of financial stress when what Mimi needs is peace and rest.  While there are larger issues to be tackled in our health care system, Mimi is in need of our support now. Helping her to pay this bill, will help her to continue serving the herbal community, will support her family by allowing her to use her resources for daily living expenses rather than money going in the direction of the medical establishment. <br /><br />Please give what you can and share this with others who love and care for Mimi. Let's help her recover and get back to work. <br /><br />Many Thanks!

UPDATE MAY 31ST<br /><br />We made our initial goal within 24 hours! From all of us working on jim's recovery support team thank you so much for all of your generosity, shares and prayers. <br /><br />We knew we could raise this money but we are all awed that we were able to raise it this quickly. <br /><br />We thoughtfully came up with our goal amount by discussing future anticipated costs with Stephanie. We did our best to come up with an accurate monetary reflection of what recover would look like for jim and his family. <br /><br />However the reality is we don't exactly know what is in store. We know medical costs will be high and we know there will be an extensive recovery time when jim won't be working. <br /><br />Now that we have raised our goal, let's continue to show the McDonald family our love and support with our continued donations, shares, and prayers. <br /><br />Thank you! Thank you!<br /><br />__________________________________________________<br /><br />Friends, family and wider community, we reach out today with an urgent call for help. Our dear friend, jim mcdonald had a massive heart attack on May 25th while he was traveling in Scotland. A well-hidden flaw in a heart we all know to be a source of joy, love and compassion finally made itself known. <br /><br /><br />In addition to the heart attack he developed a serious complication that resulted in emergency surgery. He is currently in critical but stable condition, is under sedation, and while he is expected to make a full recovery, the journey there will be long. Stephanie and the kids are on their way to Scotland to be with jim now, and are expecting to be there for up to 6 weeks, until jim is allowed to travel home. <br /><br /><br />A heart attack is always a serious and life-threatening emergency, when it happens thousands of miles away, in a foreign country, the difficulties and costs faced by the family multiply infinitely. <br /><br /><br />jim is a husband, and father of three, who supports his family through teaching. <br /><br /><br />We’re asking today for your help in supporting jim, and his family, through this enormously hard moment in time. <br /><br /><br />We need help paying for travel for his wife, Stephanie and their three children. <br /><br /><br />We need your help paying for their time in Scotland during jim’s convalescence. <br /><br /><br />We need help paying for jim’s surgery and recovery time in the hospital. <br /><br /><br />And finally, as Jim begins his recovery, we need your help filling in the gaps that the loss of several months income will mean for his family. It’s a big ask; but if not his community, and his friends, who else? <br /><br /><br />To help keep the McDonalds afloat in this storm is going to take all of us, pitching in, how and where we can. <br /><br /><br />The first, best and most direct help you can give, is through this GoFundme effort. <br /><br /><br />Literally every dollar counts. If jim’s teaching, his herbs, his goodness, his questionable wit, and undeniable enthusiasm has ever touched you, please consider taking this time to show that love back in his time of need. <br /><br /><br />Please share this GoFundMe far and wide: 5 dollars from a stranger matters. 10 bucks from one of your coworkers makes a difference. <br /><br /><br />And finally, in whatever version of prayer you practice, please hold jim and his family in your hearts. Keep the good intentions and healing love flowing so that we can have him back to talking about prog rock soon.<br /><br /><br />We are all so lucky to be a part of jim’s community, be it local or extended around the world. This is our chance to do something together, to rally and support them, so that jim and his family can heal.<br /><br />With our deepest gratitude, <br /><br />jim's recovery support team<br /><br /><img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/30221366_15276312210_r.jpeg" alt="30221366_15276312210_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />.............................................................................<br /><br />(also, jim is a very popular man— please understand that Stephanie is overwhelmed, and is asking for privacy so that she can focus on her family. We know you’ll have questions and will also want to pass messages on to jim himself for when he’s awake. For general questions or requests, please email [email redacted] and if you’d like to send jim a ‘get well soon’ email we’ve set up his own email at [email redacted] )
