I've been a nurse for over 10 years, dedicating my life to caring for others, but now, at just 38 years old, I find myself in the fight of my life against stage 3C colorectal cancer.

<div>My wife and I have three little ones under the age of 5, and as the sole provider for our family, this diagnosis has turned our world upside down. My wife would return to work if she could, but with my ongoing treatment and our young children at home, she has become my full-time caregiver, managing everything while I focus on fighting this disease.

<div>Over the past several months, I've undergone aggressive chemotherapy, with radiation and possible surgery still ahead. This journey has not only been physically and emotionally draining but also financially overwhelming. Being out of work for six months has left us struggling to keep up with daily expenses, medical bills, and the basic necessities for our children.

<div>On September 7, 2024 a devastating typhoon swept through Vietnam - wreaking havoc on its communities. Crushing flash floods made its way through the remote mountainous districts of Bắc Hà, Simacai, and Bảo Yên in the Lào Cai province. These areas are deeply occupied by Hmong and other communities who farm, go to school, live, and cultivate the land.

<div>Casualties rise to 246 with many dead, missing, or injured as villages and communities struggle to rescue their family members and salvage whatever of their homes they have left. Lào Cai province reports the highest typhoon casualties in the country. Over 9,000 homes have been destroyed. Over 97 highland villages of Lào Cai are isolated by floods, all relief efforts are a race against time.

<div>On May 26th, 2024, we the Thao family, survived a horrific event. A tornado came through the town of Decatur, AR, destroying our home of 20 plus years along with 4 cars that serves as our primarily form of transportation.

Support Thao Family's Tornado Recovery

<div>Hi, my name is Nkaujshua Lo and I’m starting a fundraiser to help out my close friend/sister whose husband got into a major car accident on Sunday, March 24th. Our dear friend, Hmoov, was involved in a head-on collision and was air lifted to a hospital in Charlotte for surgery, fractured bones, and injuries to his jaw/mouth. He’s a father of two beautiful babies (a 1-year old girl, Sophie, and a 3-year old boy, Nolan) who weren’t in the car with him at the time. They’re such a genuine, humble family and it’s so unfortunate that this happened. They had just bought their first home not even a year ago.

<div>It is with great sadness and sorrow, that on the eve of Thursday September 28th 2023, we bid farewell to our son, our husband, our father, our friend, our brother Neng "Duke" Vang. So close and yet so far from home, heaven seems so much further away now. A distinctive genuine soul gone too soon.

<div>Duke came from a family of eight; his father (Chong Kai Vang), mother (Shia Lor) and six total siblings with him being the eldest. There are three sons (Duke, Kea and Souk) and three daughters (Amanda, Anita and Boun). The Vang family started with origins from across the ocean to the West coast of California. After some time, they went from palm tree beaches to Christmas tree blizzards on the East coast of New York. With open hearts and minds, Duke was graced to find someone to share a life and nurture a future with. Together as High School loves, his wife Sherry Lee.

They were wed in 2000 and shortly after found themselves setting roots in the countryside of Decatur, Arkansas. Wise even with few words, thoughtful with sincerity, a real one, he taught us it didn't take any type of special offering to exercise kindness.

Neng "Duke" Vang

<div>Hi everyone! This is Linda, Yer’s older sister. It’s been heavy on our hearts to share this news but we feel it’s best to share this early to gather as much support as we can get…on Friday June 30th my little sister Yer was diagnosed with stage 3b breast cancer. Every cancer diagnosis is unique, but unfortunately, she was diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer which is a more aggressive type of tumor with a faster growth rate, higher risk of metastasis and recurrence risk. This type of breast cancer accounts for about 10% to 20% of all breast cancer cases.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Our world was turned upside down when Yer shared the devastating news with us. As an older sister with nine siblings and whose role is to protect their younger siblings, it shattered my heart to pieces. We have never prayed harder in our lives, crying out to God, pleading for answers, and begging this was all a dream.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>While we are all still in shock, we are trying our best to process what we know. We have met with a team of seasoned doctors, her oncologist, breast surgeon and radiation oncologist, who have provided a solid treatment plan. However, it can change drastically if the results of her PET scan show that the cancer has metastasized, meaning it has spread to other parts of her body. We’re praying hard that it hasn’t.
</div>

</div>
<div>Yer feels confident this team will help her reach her goal of being cancer free. She is only 38 years old and truly at the top of her life. She has a loving husband and 3 very young children ages 6, 3, and 5 months old that adore and need her. She is one of the most remarkable people you’ll ever meet, her friends and family always share how much she lights up their life. Professionally, she is a passionate Registered Nurse and has selflessly been taking care of patients for over a decade, even wading through the unknowns of the COVID-19 pandemic.

<div>Yer is the sole income earner and while they have some savings, it’ll quickly burn through as she has to take 6-12 months unpaid time off to save her life and give her the best chance at beating breast cancer. My sister is doing something she’s never done before in her life… ask for help. It has been humbling for her to go through this and for me to support her with this fundraiser. All funds will go towards rent, food, and any medical expenses. If there are extra funds, it will go towards her children's educational funds and their future.

<div>My name is Maitong Lee. I am currently 16 months old. I was born in October 2021 with a severe brain injury (Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy—HIE) at birth. I had a traumatic entrance into the world when my mom developed severe preeclampsia in her third trimester. One night, unexpectedly mommy developed severe abdominal pain that was unbearable. Mommy and daddy rushed to the ER in fear of not knowing what will happen to me. My mommy got an ultrasound ordered and the nurse started her exam. The dead look on the nurse's face instantly told mommy and daddy something was wrong. She was not able to find a heartbeat in her exam. My heart was decelerating, and my chances of surviving were diminishing by the second.
</div>

<div>The nurse quickly called for a code blue and my mom was rushed for an emergency C-Section--I needed to be delivered asap. At delivery, I was born without a heartbeat and my brain was oxygen deprived. It took the doctors and nurses 15 minutes to resuscitate me. I was quickly put on oxygen support and transferred to Children’s Hospital to immediately start cooling therapy to avoid any further brain damage.
</div>

<div>Daddy was put in a tough situation having to split time between visiting me and mommy as we were in various parts of town. Things were not looking good for me as my entire body was failing and fully dependent on medical support. Doctors broke the news to mommy and daddy that I had an extremely low chance of living. "I want to be upfront with you two as parents that it's not looking good for your daughter, how would you like us to proceed moving forward?" said the doctor. Mommy and daddy broke into tears in disbelief after hearing the news. They had an exceedingly difficult decision to make whether to pull the plug or continue medical treatment. As expected, mommy and daddy chose to not give up on me and let fate decide which way I was going.
</div>

<div>I scratched and clawed my way as my body became healthier and started to trend in the right direction. Doctors were in shock with the way I was progressing, calling it a miracle. I was labeled as a true warrior fighting to stay alive. I was eventually discharged from the hospital and began my journey in life.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>I had an MRI scan which showed severe damage throughout my whole brain. I was later diagnosed with spastic quadriplegia cerebral palsy, microcephaly, and craniosynostosis. Specifically, my craniosynostosis was confirmed as trigonocephaly, where the metopic suture had prematurely fused early.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Mommy knew something was not right and had been watching me since birth. She requested that the cranial facial team at Gillette Children's see us due to my forehead being uneven/unlevel. It also looked very pointy. Unfortunately, we did not get to see them until I was around 5-6 months old.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The craniofacial doctor confirmed that I had trigonocephaly and that my metopic suture had been fused early already. However, he was not sure if I needed surgery and wanted a second opinion from a neurosurgeon. Thankfully, a neurosurgeon was available that same day, and after reviewing my MRI scan, he recommended that surgery be needed. Due to my complex situation, mommy and daddy had consulted with other craniofacial teams from all over as well to see if they believed surgery was necessary.
</div>

<div>After careful consideration, mommy and daddy have decided to go ahead with the surgery to give me the best possible outcome in life. They have decided to go with Dr. Jeffrey A. Fearon and his team, who are based in Dallas, TX. Dr. Fearon has extensive years of practice and has published many publications about his work and findings over the years of craniofacial surgery.

I currently cannot roll, I currently cannot sit, and I often get muscle stiffness in my body. Mommy and daddy have chiropractic sessions and physical therapy scheduled for me weekly. Under my condition, if trigonocephaly is not treated there could be pressure in the head which causes developmental delays, learning/behavioral problems, vision problems, and headaches.
</div>

<div>Mommy left her teaching career and had since been a stay-at-home mom for over a year now taking care of me. This leaves daddy as the only person with income coming in to support our little family financially.

<div>Furthermore, my health insurance is considered out of network. I have medical assistance, but Dr. Fearon and his team do not accept this kind of health insurance plan. I am asking for your donation to help me cover the cost of the surgery fee, added medical fees, traveling expenses, and accommodations while in Dallas, TX. In hopes that I can start my journey to have a better life, and future ahead of me.

Help Maitong: An Opportunity at Quality of Life!

<div>Hi everyone ! As you may already know, David has been in the hospital since March after finding out he has Acute Myeloid Leukemia. He had his first round of chemo on March 21, which had him hooked up for 24hrs straight for 7 days. They monitored his blood count for a week and he ended up needing 3 platelet transfusions within that time. They recently did his second bone marrow biopsy, which they hoped to find no more traces of cancer cells, but unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. He will be staying in the hospital for another month or so while continuing another round of chemo. With everything in the unknown, we are asking family and friends for help and support since he won’t be working and has a baby on the way! Anything helps and we deeply appreciate the support and prayers everyone has been providing for him!

<div>Today, we’d like to share our mother’s story with you. Our mother was diagnosed with stage III Pancreatic Cancer back in March 2021. She started her first round of chemotherapy in June 2021 with no success and disappointment. Looking at the high accumulated medical expenses, she was hesitant to continue further treatment. The entire family was not ready to give up if there were any chance of surviving this awful illness. With high hopes, she continued with painful radiation therapy during December 2021 until February 2022. Unfortunately, it was to no avail. Her CT scans showed no promising signs. Despite how much pain she was in, we were not ready to give up on her. She continued with a different type of Chemotherapy in May 2022 which took a tremendous toll on her already fragile body.

<div>In June 2022, the family and physicians came to a decision that it was best to stop all treatments as her fragile body couldn’t tolerate the strong treatments anymore. We just want our mother to be comfortable and spend the little amount of time she has in the comfort of her home with family. With a broken heart, our mother came home with hospice with a life expectancy of 2-3 months. With our mother’s condition, our father had to take unpaid leave from work to take care of her. With comfort care and my dad’s determination, she fought hard during downs and exceeded hospice’s expectations until February 25, 2023 where her poor body gave up on her. Our family has been grateful for all the love and support, we graciously appreciate any donations given.

<div>Hello friends and family, my name is Minda and I am creating this GoFundMe page for my boyfriend Tim’s fathers funeral expenses. The Bounya family is sadden to inform you the sudden loss of their beloved father, Yrueh Bounya, on January 10. Yrueh has suffered from COPD and has been fighting it for 4 years. At the end of September, he was admitted to the hospital due to pneumonia and his health declined since then. With the sudden loss of their father, the family is asking for any monetary donations to help go towards the funeral expenses. Anything you can help is appreciated.

<div>Yrueh Bounya was a former Montagnard veteran fighting alongside the Americans during the Vietnam war. In 1987, Yrueh was sponsored by Laura and John Fisher from Christ United Methodist Church to come to America. He has survived his wife (Aon Souern), one daughter (Sareem Bounya), two sons (Tim and Kem Bounya), and a grandson (Zayne Phayaxay).

<p><span style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong>The Cause:</strong></span>
</p>

<p>The vulnerable Hmong people in North Vietnam need our support this winter – <span style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong>Please</strong></span> read on for information about how you can <strong>help</strong>.
</p>

<p>My name is Ben Neoh and earlier this year I spent six months living and volunteering in far <strong>North Vietnam</strong> working with disadvantaged minority youth. These minority groups are disadvantaged due to their remote mountainous location, having difficult land to farm with, lacking access to employment opportunities and not having enough resources for furthering their education. I witnessed the poor conditions that these communities are having to endure and <strong>it broke my heart</strong> knowing that I didn't have the resources to help. 
</p>

<p>I am currently working directly with the Hmong communities in Mù Cang Chải to gather information about their needs and have since learned that there are approximately <strong>67 poor, disadvantaged families</strong> who have listed warm blankets and clothes to be their number one need. A further half of these families listed having enough rice to ration over this challenging time of year as a top priority. This second issue is due to being unable to grow enough rice throughout the year because of the limited dry land that they have to farm with and the stark climate changes affecting their yield.<br /><br />
</p>

<p><span style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong>The Issue:</strong></span>
</p>

<p>Around Mù Cang Chải, the temperature can often drop to <strong>ZERO degrees</strong> overnight. Many of these Hmong families are forced to endure these harsh conditions without heaters, enough warm clothes and blankets, or basic staple foods. <strong>Being from</strong> <strong>Victoria</strong>, we understand what zero degrees means, though most of us are fortunate enough to stay warm and have access to food. For the people in Mù Cang Chải, the winter months render already vulnerable communities susceptible to illness, fatigue, and malnourishment, which then leads to poor work and education outcomes, reduced incomes and heavy financial burdens that continue to follow them throughout the year. <br /><br />
</p>

<p><span style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong>The Relief</strong></span>
</p>

<p>I have been working closely with my personal connections in Mù Cang Chải to research the availability of rice and blankets, associated costs and have developed a project plan for delivering adequate supplies of both to the 67 families. Please see the breakdown as follows:
</p>

<p><strong>Warm Blankets</strong> 230,000 VND/Each = Around $14 AUD x 67<br /><br /><span style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong>Total Needed</strong></span> <strong> =  </strong>15,410,000 VND = Around $938 AUD
</p>

<p>As rice is a staple for the Hmong, they eat a lot more rice than we would in the west. There are also many more people per household, so we estimate each family requiring a minimum of 30kg per week. We would like to provide a couple of week's worth of food relief per family which would equal: 
</p>

<p><strong>Quality rice</strong> per/10kg is 110,000 VND = Around $7 AUD<br /><br />60kg/family = 660,000 VND = Around $42 AUD x 35<em><br /></em>
</p>

<p><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Total Needed</span>  </strong>=  23,100,000 VND = $1,470 AUD 
</p>

<p><span style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong>The Desired Timeframe for Delivering Relief:</strong></span>
</p>

<p>I will be returning to Mù Cang Chải in late<strong> January 2019</strong>. I hope to have reached our fundraising goal and purchased the supplies so I can deliver the relief to affected families in time for the winter. <p>Any additional funds needed for resources such as transport will be covered by me and some of the better off Hmong community members who are helping me organize this relief who wish to support and give back to their own people.

<p>The relief we end up providing will depend solely on the funds that we can raise.  If we do not raise our goal amount by the end of January, we will do what we can for the most disadvantaged first until there is no more funding left.
</p>

<p>With the funds we do receive, <strong>we will document the progress we make </strong>through actual expenditure, provide updates in supplying relief and document the responses from the community through written updates here on this page. We will possibly include photos/video too - so please stay posted with our journey whether or not you're able to donate.
</p>

<p>This is a temporary relief to a greater issue, but we know the relationships we'll build through running <strong>this initiative will create a strong foundation for longer-term work in the future</strong><em>.</em> We hope to work with the Hmong communities in Mù Cang Chải to further build their community so that the burdens they face can be reduced. Through reducing their burdens, people can be empowered to reach their fullest potential and create a healthy and financially sustainable community.

Winter Relief for Disadvantaged Hmong Families

Those who know Leng and Usanee know that they are wonderful parents to six-year old Olivia, and four-year old Will. Their love for God is reflected in every aspect of their lives and their faith inspires all who know them. <br /><br />We express our deepest gratitude for so many of our friends and family who have reached out to us in these last few days. Although we mourn the loss of Kinsley, we know our separation is only momentarily and look forward to reuniting with her in Heaven. <br /><br />Many have asked how they can help. Prayer support is powerful so we ask that you would continue to keep Leng, Usanee, Olivia and Will in your prayers.
