Rick Hautala rose to fame in the 1980s with his million-copy best-seller NIGHTSTONE. Rick was such a kind and humble writer always going out of his way to help up and coming authors. He was generous and giving. and I am the archivist for the Rick Hautala Papers and a friend of the Hautala family. I have been processing and organizing the Hautala papers since 2007 on a pro-bono basis. Mr. Hautala's papers comprise of manuscripts, letters, journals, books, photographs, and notes giving us a picture of his creative process as a writer. The Maine State Library Archives has accepted the Rick Hautala Paper into the archives. These papers will be transferred to this institution end of December of this year. I can see Rick smiling now as I am sure he never considered his papers being housing in such a prestigious institution.
Although I am processing and organization these papers pro-bono, the monetary amount of purchasing archival storage boxes, folders, sleeves, etc. are costly. The Rick Hautala Papers will encompass approximately 42 linear feet of shelf space. The cost of materials will run$2344. This amount will be needed by the Decembere 15, 2017.
