Fund the Alabama State Government

The State of Alabama is experiencing tight financial times and needs your help. Legislators are debating possible financial solutions but are finding that Raising Taxes are not wanted by the citizens of Alabama. Rather than have the Government come after your hard earned money you can now send an amount that fits your budget, even request where your money be used.

You can determine what functions of Government are a priority to you.

I see a lot of GoFundMe and other crowdsourcing requests. They are usually for disabled children or adults to cover moving, transportation or medical expenses. Sometimes people will be asking for help with a funeral, a new invention, or a short film. The state of Alabama has already taken 30 years of taxes from my paychecks, including 10 years of an unconstitutional "occupational tax" ... therefore I will not be donating to them... after all, I will still probably be denied access to healthcare or Planned Parenthood as a low-income woman. Since the Legislature doesn't want to do their jobs, legalize cannabis and/or gambling, or find ANY other answer, they should design a logo that say "MY STATE IS BACKWARD" for a T-Spring campaign. That way the donors could at least say they got a lousy T-shirt.

I'm fact, raise my property taxes. You could double it, and we still would be the lowest in the country. Just do anything else but cut funding for the poor, old, and education. Seems an easy request.

I can't believe people are actually donating to these crooks. It's not our fault as tax payers that the state government can't mange it's money. Maybe you should get with the times and stop living in the fairytale bible belt and legalize/tax marijuana and pass the lottery . Instead you want more money from tax payers. Pleeeaasseee. Smfh.

Lets see, the reason that we have a budget crisis is because our legislators have not done there jobs. There are many revenue streams that could solved the current budget crisis, but Jesus wouldn't like it. Apparently, all legislators gain the ability to read Jeusus' mind. No matter what you "were trying to prove" this is low class and unbefitting a me.mber of the Alabama legislature

If only there was a way to get everyone to pitch in a little bit. Like a everyone gives a small portion of their own money to improve their city and state. Fix potholes, fun the fire department pay for textbooks; you see where I'm going. The money people give would go directly back to their community! I think it's pretty clever. What could we call it? hmmmm..

Let's see, my check is heavily taxed. I bring home less than $26k a year and cannot afford a home payment on my own because not only do I get my ass taxed left and right, but now I have to pay horrible insurance premiums or get fined at the end of the year for not having the crap. Yet you idiots in Montgomery make more than enough to suffice, along with all of the illegal bribes you all take in and get for passing or suggesting bills to meet the wants of big business. And you idiots vote first thing as soon as you're in session on raises for yourselves. Creating a go fund me campaign is pathetic! Try doing without a check for 2 months and you'll probably have more than enough to cover the short-fall in Alabama's already pathetic budget!

I also fail to see how your argument about taxes justifies this ridiculousness. Our budget problems are a direct result of our Legislature's failure to work together to do what they are elected to do. PERIOD. It is also the direct result of allowing corporate interest to dictate what your priorities are in Montgomery. You work for everyone, Mr. Sanford, and you all can be replaced. The people are getting sick of this... and we outnumber those to which you are beholden. More and more people are becoming aware at how working Alabamians are being screwed and you should do your job accordingly.

This is something that most people don't know. You can see what these state employees make. State spending is available for the public to see on open.alabama.gov. Mr. Sanford makes a lot more money than I do and I am a State of Alabama employee too. Check out his earnings from October 2014- current 2015. Let's cut these people's pay to fund the budget. http://open.alabama.gov/Checkbook/Payee/PayeeCategory.aspx?pname=PAULLSANFORD&pcode=00000079420

Mr. Sanford, I doubt that half the citizens of this state or the rest of the country will get your "point" ... This is a badly conceived idea and would probably look better for you to take this down before it makes the national media. Alabama does not need this to add to our reputation as one of the worst states in the Union in which to live or make any kind of progress.

I tried to put in -$250 but it wouldn't take a negative number. I figure that's a taxpayers share of the Education Trust Fund Budget Surplus. I planned to give that to the local mental health charity since they are getting cut in the other state budget.

Though I have lived outside of Alabama for 35 years, I was born and raised in Alabama and many family and friends live there. I received my public education and college education from Alabama and I am forever grateful. I would like to see more individuals show an interest in what once made the state unique. Its pivotal role in the development of rocket science and the space program, its great tradition in art, literature, sports and leisure, its natural beauty and, of course, its role in the development of the peanut as one of nature's greatest and most promising food sources. The peanut has suffered in status in recent years as increasingly more focus on peanut-related allergies have forced it off airlines, out of school cafeterias, etc. A 'moon-shot' effort to better understand this serious food allergy at the basic immunological level could reestablish the peanut as a word class nut again, it could improve the quality of life for those unfortunate enough to suffer from this condition and it could boost the economy of Alabama to new heights. Let us sweep past the Georgias and Tennessees of this great nation and return Alabama to its rightful glory. Please spend my $5 on higher education and, in particular, peanut allergy research.

Its fun to give money that I've worked hard for to millionaires! While campaigning, they said the people of Alabama would be able to vote on gaming/lottery plus no new taxes. Seeing as both of these issues are still up in the air, I feel confident that I can trust you to use my $5 wisely.

Please give my donation 100% to the Alabama Appellate Courts with priorities being a real document/case management system, where litigants can pay on-line, have access to TRUE efiling, where litigants can file notices of appeal on-line and have regular access to the records in their case . Also, an adequately staffed IT department and a raise to EVERYONE who has not had more than one raise in the last 6 years.
