Rally & Recovery for HollerDesign

Donation protected
I'm starting this campaign for my brother-in-law, Matt Alexander and his custom design-build furniture studio HollerDesign. Matt and my sister Katie have suffered a devastating loss, as Matt's work shop was recently lost to a fire. I'll share Matt's own words below:

"This is a difficult post to write.

Early Friday morning (June 15) while my wife and I were out of town we received the news that our new workshop was on fire. It was bad. A complete and total loss of the building and all of the contents. Needless to say this is more than just a minor setback.

At the age of 16 I knew that I wanted to spend the rest of my life making things with my hands. At 18 I decided every extra bit of money, every Christmas present, every birthday present would go towards my love of making. Hand tools, power tools, new materials. Anything I could get my hands on. This pile of ash represents 20 years, an embarrassing amount of money and countless hours of my time and the time of those who have worked with me. In the end though, it’s just stuff. Tools and Time and Money. I’ll get the tools and money back. The time is gone and I just have to accept it. The things that get me in the gut; a folder full of notes from my wife, a plaque from the funeral of one of my best friends, and a hammer and clamps that my parents gave me when I turned 16. That’s the stuff that really sticks in my craw.

We’ve got a long row to hoe to get back on track. Fortunately I have the full support of my amazing wife and my family and friends and the guys that work with me. We are determined. In the words of Macho Man Randy Savage, “I am unjustifiably in a position that I would rather not be in.” but I am confident that the “Cream of the crop will rise to the top”. Now it’s time to do some work brother."

Some things are indeed irreplaceable, but that doesn't mean that we can't help a friend in need. Matt would give the shirt off of his back to anyone who needed it, and now it's our turn to rally around him.

Any donation – no matter the amount – will go a long way in helping Matt to purchase new tools and equipment to get up and running agin. He'll be starting from scratch, needing to replace everything from hand-tools and nails to table saws and welding equipment.

Your support is sincerely, and humbly, appreciated.

I've added some photos below to show you what we're up against. I've also included some shots of the shop in action, to help give a sense of just how much was lost here. This is really only a fraction...
