Patrick Schoonover (age 14) passed away while playing hockey 11/14/14, from Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) caused by undetected heart defects.
Patrick's heart defects were never noticed during routine medical exams and athletic physicals. With help from friends and volunteers, the Patrick Schoonover Heart Foundation helps save lives by offering free youth heart Screens,
"Play for Patrick" youth heart screenings are free to all kids & young adults 14-24 years old and include: Family health history, BP-measures blood pressure , EKG-measures electrical activity of the heart, Echocardiogram-displays structure of the heart, Hands only CPR & AED training
From August 2015 to February 2020, the Patrick Schoonover Heart Foundation conducted 22 Play for Patrick youth heart screens. Screened 3,643 kids, found 226 with elevated blood pressure (w/repeated check), 249 with abnormal electrical or structural heart defects, taught 3,333 kids & adults CPR & AED awareness and donated 11 AEDs to area Schools.
