Madi's Fight against Leukemia

Over the past two weeks, my cousin Ashley Jewett and her ex Chris Hanson had their world turned upside down.  After much consideration and prayer about how best we can help her,  Ashley's sister Whitney Jewett and I have decided to launch a Go Fund Me account.

Ashley is a single mom with two beautiful children, Madison age five and Preston age three.  Two weeks ago Madi was admitted to Phoenix Children's Hospital for an undiagnosed condition affecting her immune system.  After ten days in the hospital, Madi was released pending confirmation of test results. On Monday, October 29th, Madi’s 5th birthday, Ashley received the call from the doctors confirming what she feared most.  Madison’s second bone marrow biopsy was positive for Leukemia.

The type of cancer Madi has is called Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML).  It's an aggressive blood cancer. It is fast spreading and represents about twenty percent of all childhood forms of leukemia.  Madi's doctors have told Ashley and Chris that the five year prognosis is 50/50. A few children do not survive the treatment because of how stressful it is on their cardiovascular system and immune system.   They are asking for your thoughts and your prayers. Please do not feel sorry for them. Feel positive and optimistic that Madi makes it through this with as little difficulty as possible. Hug your kids, go donate blood, be kind to strangers in Madi’s honor.  Live your life fully and know in your hearts that Madi will be a part of our lives for a long time to come!

 Family and Friends, It is time to rally for Madi and Ashley!
Ashley will be unable to work full time in her profession as a realtor because Madi's treatment requires that she be hospitalized for the better part of six to nine months.  Ashley will be in the hospital right beside her. Madi's doctors have said she can expect a short break away from the hospital every couple months but during these breaks, she will need to limit her exposure to other people including family members.  Madison will be severely neutropenic as a result of her extremely compromised immune system.   As Ashely and her  family live approximately 35 miles away from the hospital, Ashley will rent an apartment next to the hospital.   This will serve as a safe home space for Madi during her short breaks from treatment as well as respite for Ashley when she gets a break from fighting alongside Madi.  While we hope that most of the medical expenses will be covered by insurance, any procedures that are not covered will translate into greater financial burden since Ashely will be unable to work during Madi's treatment.   Our wish is to ease that hardship with any donations that we receive so that Ashley  may focus all of her energy and spirit towards Madi's healing.

We are dedicating this page to fund ongoing medical costs and everyday expenses for Madi’s treatment.  We are grateful for each contribution, as this page is not solely intended for financial reasons, but also to serve as support for Ashley and Chris while they navigate this difficult life challenge.  Share your stories of hope and words of encouragement as often as you feel moved to do so!

 Please continue to keep Madi and family in your prayers.

So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
