Help Mark & Kris Rebuild After Fire
This past week, my siblings and I closed the probate on our dad's estate. Our dad passed away over the new year. My brother, Mark, was the executor. And as such, Mark had a lot to deal with before getting a chance to take a breather and start the healing process from our dad's passing.
This morning (July 27) I got up and checked my email and phone messages. The news was on, and mentioned the Redding Carr fire. I sent my brother a text and asked how close and if they were okay.
He and his wife Kris and their kitty had been evacuated and were staying at Kris's parents home in Sacramento. Apparently there wasn't much time, as he told my sister in a text, "Firestorm."
And then, within the hour, I got the text, "It's confirmed that our house burned."
Mark and Kris have weathered a lot of things over the years, but nothing like having to start completely over. They are good people, hard working people. Solid working class folks who raised a great son now working in the medical field (out of state). They earned everything they built.
When I asked what they needed, it had not registered exactly how much is needed to start over. Mark said, "Everything." He meant it.
Imagine losing everything. And then imagine trying to piece it all back togehter. It seems insurmountable. But you start where you are, with the essentials and build from there.
I want to help my brother and his wife start over. I'm not asking to rebuild his house or replace the large items like a car. The insurance will take care of that, in time. I just want to get him started with the essentials.
Essentials like shoes, clothes, pots and pans, utensils for cooking and eating, towels, cat food, the things they need to return to work and a sense of normalcy as they dig out from the ashes.
I know many others in the Redding area are facing similar circumstances. If you know some of these folks, please support them. If you can help Mark & Kris out with a couple of dollars, I am forever grateful, and I know they will be.
If you would rather donate a physical item, like a pot or pan or socks, I can make arrangements for that to happen. Please message me directly.
Who am I? I am Terri Lloyd, a full time artist living and working in Los Angeles.
Mark and Kris are my brother and sister-in-law. We have another sister, Kathy Barthlomew, who lives in Redondo Beach.
The funds will be used for essentials, as mentioned above.
As funds are withdrawn, I will be sending a check in care of Mark & Kris via mail to where Kris works, since they do not have a permanent address at this time. Kris & Mark both work for the City of Redding.
A report will be provided within 60 days of closing the campaign.
Please feel free to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions or concerns.
I thought I'd share the following article it gives some insight to how these fires affect people:
I have two checks going out this week to Mark & Kris, one for $154.49 and another for $48.25.
Kindly note that these figures are after the GoFundMe fees.
As of this point, I have dispersed all funds raised to help Mark and Kris. I'll keep this campaign open for a little while in case someone wants to help.
I can't put into words how grateful we are for family and community. You are all angels.
I just had a brief text with Mark and Kris. They are still overwhelmed with the outpouring of support from you all.
Mark says they "doing fine and moving forward. We still feel like we are in a little bit of a fog but we can see the light at the end of the tunnel."
I love my brother's stoic optimism.
Yesterday (Saturday, August 5) I mailed out a check for $484. 30
Once funds clear from this weekends deposit I'll be sending another check for $582.00
These numbers reflect your donations minus the Gofundme fees.
Again, thank you all for your kindness. You are angels.
Peace and love,
We reached our initial goal of $2500. Thank you Angels for your kindness and generosity. As Mark says, "Thank you doesn't seem like enough."
We set the original fundraising goal to help Mark & Kris with essentials while they wait for the insurance companies and banks to sort out the aftermath of the Carr Fire. Since we attained our first goal, the Gofundme platform allows us the choice of either closing the campaign or raising more funds.
I honestly don't know what it takes to replace the essentials, so I opted to raise another thousand dollars. It is my promise that this campaign will be capped at a reasonable amount of funding.
There are other people affected by this fire, your support of Mark and Kris is a blessing beyond my ability to put it to words.
Please don't hesitate to contact me directly with any questions or concerns. And if you are active with social media, sharing is caring.
Thank you Angels.
Peace and Love,
You've put a lot of trust in my hands. Because of that, I want to be as transparent as possible.
Gofundme is now depositing funds into my account on a regular basis (daily or every other day). I sent out the first check this morning via snail mail to Mark & Kris. We are using Kris's work address for this effort since they don't have a (semi) permanent address yet.
After fees for using this platform the first check is for $1,421.66.
I'll be writing a second check in a couple of days for $541.06
You will be notified as each check goes out to Mark & Kris.
It is truly humbling to see the best of humanity (that's you). We are all so very grateful.
Peace & Love,
