Karol was 26 years old. He had recently moved to Switzerland, having previously lived and studied in Leicester for six years.
On Friday, August 8th, after finishing work, Karol and a friend decided to go on a short trip to the lake.
They swam in a guarded part of the lake, with solid ground beneath their feet.
At one point, Karol's friend decided they shouldn't go any further, and Karol, agreeing, turned around and together they swam to shore. Karol's friend turned around, making sure Karol was following him.
After a short while, he looked back again and saw that Karol was gone. He called the rescuers, who began the rescue. The rescuers pulled Karol's limp body onto the kayak, and then began resuscitation on the shore. After being transported to the hospital, his heart beat came back, and Karol's family still held out hope that everything would be alright.
Unfortunately, there was too much water in Karol's lungs, and although his heart was beating, no other organs were functioning.
Attempts to save Karol's life lasted over 13 hours. Sadly, Karol died on Saturday at 7:52 a.m. local time.
Due to the fact that Karol died outside of Poland and that some of Karol's family also reside abroad permanently, the costs associated with the funeral are enormous. Therefore, we are asking for financial support and prayers for Karol. Thank you.
