Mission Work in Alaska

Dear Friends,

I am eager to announce an opportunity to travel to Alaska in one month to meet with a group of believers for discipleship training. This will be my first trip in this setting. Some background for how I got to this point, I have been involved at some level with discipleship training for almost three years. This began simply by one man giving another man some information, who gave it to another, who gave it to another, who gave it to me! These men continue to disciple me and others and are truly living out the Great Commission of making disciples of all nations!! Jesus was strategic in how he communicated with His disciples. He taught them in ways they would never forget. What's more, He taught them exactly what they needed to reproduce the life He had lived before them. We see this fulfilled in the New Testament from the men and women who followed Him on His journey to the cross for us all. These men reached their known worlds, and our world today, as we read in the letters of Paul, Timothy, Peter, Luke, and many others!

Never in a million years did I think I would be here. Even as a Christian in the early days I remember saying, "no, God isn't calling me to mission work." And yet here we are, getting ready to travel across the country to reproduce a reproducer of Christ for the world. Almost three years ago a man named Bill Carrier said, "the goal is 7.5 billion." I thought it was farfetched and I was confused. He simply meant the goal for Christ was the whole world (7.5 billion people). After spending time with Bill and others the Spirit began to illuminate what they were saying to me. The strategy of discipleship came to life right in front of my eyes. We can read where the Apostle Paul instructs Timothy to take what he has heard from him (Paul) and entrust it to faithful men who will be able to teach others also (2 Tim. 2:2). And this is what I mean, Bill Carrier invested in Jason White, Jason invested in Derek Jones, Derek Jones invested in Matt Rummage, and Matt invested in me. These men have not poured into me for my good or that I may be better. They have done what they have done to prepare me for a life of reproducing disciples of Christ. This trip is a great leap outside of my ol' comfort zone to transfer my life to others for the sake of Christ's name.

Here we are, almost three years later, and an opportunity to travel with a small team of 6 men has come! There is an open door to proclaim the Gospel and the disciple-making process to 'others also'. Just as the Spirit opened many travel doors for the followers of Christ, He has done so with this trip to Alaska.

All of this is said to invite you to pray for our team as we make this trip, to encourage you to begin pouring yourself into others, and for financial assistance, as the Lord leads. We will self-fund all our expenses which will total around $1500 per person for travel, food, and hotel stay. With that, I must mention that God has already graciously provided nearly $1,000 through some different men who have been walking alongside me. Any extra funds will be used for other team members who may be in need or will be put back in a church (Catawba Baptist) bank account for the next trip. The six of us men will be traveling Nov. 9th-15th, and we plan to make the most of our time through teaching, networking, and sharing God's heart for His people and His purposes.
