Support Jen in Her Fight Against Cancer
Most of you reading this know Jen well and understand the joy, love, and kindness she brings to everyone around her. For those who may not, Jen is one of the most fun-loving and caring moms, wives, sisters, cousins, aunts, nieces, and friends you could ever meet. Her husband, Robbie, and their two daughters, Brooke (16) and Alexa (10), are the center of her world. She is about to celebrate her 43rd birthday on February 21st.
A Life-Changing Diagnosis
On New Year’s Eve, Jen went to the emergency room with severe abdominal pain. After undergoing a CT scan and endoscopy, she received the devastating news: malignant tumors covered her entire stomach and the lower third of her esophagus. A week later, pathology results confirmed Stage IV Gastric and Esophageal cancer with Peritoneal Carcinomatosis, meaning the cancer had already spread to her abdominal lining.
Like many Stage IV cancers, this diagnosis is incredibly challenging. The median survival for Stage IV stomach cancer is around 13 months, with only 3% of patients surviving beyond five years.
Needless to say, this news has been a heartbreaking and life-altering shock for Jen and our entire family.
The Fight Begins
Since her diagnosis, Jen has been navigating nearly daily doctor’s appointments while enduring the physical pain of cancer, which has made it difficult for her to sleep and eat. On January 28th, she began an intensive chemotherapy and immunotherapy regimen.
Her treatment plan consists of receiving medication every two weeks in a grueling three-day process:
• Day 1: Chemo and immunotherapy drugs administered through her port at the cancer facility for several hours.
• Days 2-3: A pump attached to her port continues delivering the drugs for the next 46 hours while she’s at home.
Jen will undergo eight rounds of this treatment with the hope of shrinking the tumors. Although surgery to remove her stomach might be considered, two of the top cancer centers we consulted—Memorial Sloan Kettering and Johns Hopkins—expressed doubt due to the surgery’s extreme intensity and the likelihood of cancer returning elsewhere.
Exploring All Options
We are committed to giving Jen the best possible fighting chance. In addition to traditional treatments, we are exploring integrative and alternative cancer therapies that may extend her life and improve her quality of life. We have an upcoming appointment with Envita, an integrative cancer center in Arizona, to learn about alternative treatments. However, these treatments come at a high cost—averaging around $150,000.
If you know of any specialists, experts, or promising treatment options, we are open to exploring every possibility.
