Yearbook Photo Day for Trans Folks!
Donazione protetta
Getting your photo taken every year in school is a universal experience of growing up. And although it's very nerve-wrecking and awkward on the day itself, looking back years later and looking how much you've grown is very special.
Trans folks don't only have a huge growth spurt during their childhood and teenage years, but also when they transition. With bodies changing rapidly, it can be important to capture that unique moment in time -- both in early in transition to remember what you used to look like, and later in transition to proudly show the person you've become.
My name is Tengbeh, I am a non-binary portrait photographer who often photographs the queer and trans community. A couple days ago, I asked online if anyone who is currently in transition wanted to get a yearbook photo. I expected 10-15 replies, but I ended up with 99 people signing up. I would love to be able to capture all of them and that’s why I’m starting this Gofundme.
Funds will go to:
- I shoot film, so costs per person are 20 euro. roughly 2000 euro.
- Studio 250 per day, I want to shoot 2 extra days. 500 euro.
- I’ll need assistants on set and i want to reimburse them for their time. 200 euro. (Just to be clear, I am not paying myself)
- 80 euro gofundme fee
If I do end up getting more money than expected (or if I am able to get a deal on the studio), I will use extra funds to create a publication — instead of only having digital yearbook images, I’d love to create an actual physical yearbook. Not only would it be special for the people themselves, but it could be a collection faces of our community in this moment in time.
