Hi, my name’s Rui. Or as I’m sometimes referred to, “Big Bro.”

I’m writing this fundraiser as a call for help on behalf of my little (not so little) brother, Richard. Last week, he gave me a phone call explaining that he’d just received the opportunity of a lifetime, but he needs my help.

And he might just need yours too.

From Barnet Hospital to Big Dreams ⛹

On an early morning in Barnet Hospital, 30th August 2004. Everything changed! For me, my mum, and my sister. Richard was born and he’s been the baby of the family ever since. We’ve watched him grow... and grow... and grow... until he eventually became the tallest in the house!

Now, he’s ready to spread his wings and chase his dream across the Atlantic.

He started out playing football, like most kids in the UK, but when he discovered basketball, it was love at first sight. He hasn’t looked back since.

Despite growing up in a country that isn’t known for the sport, without the best resources or the earliest start, Richard has been relentless in pursuing his dream.

And what began as an afterschool interest has become a true calling.

Practice after practice. Game after game. His commitment is now paying off — he’s just been offered the chance of a lifetime to take his passion to the global stage.

“Basketball isn’t just a sport — it’s my passion, my purpose, and my life. I’ve dedicated countless hours in the gym, in courts, in the park, training, practicing, and pushing myself to be the best player I can be. These upcoming opportunities are more than just games; they’re my chance to showcase my talent, compete with top athletes, and get the exposure needed to earn college opportunities. This is the life I stay awake dreaming about.”

Before Richard can stamp his name on American soil, we need to cover the costs of tuition, travel, and everything in between.

He’s currently saving everything from his part-time job and we're doing what we can as a family. But as it were, these costs keep tallying!
