The fight against cancer goes on. There is no one I know who can say they DO NOT have a friend or relative who has battled this terrible illness. Every 19 seconds, someone, somewhere in the world is diagnosed with cancer. A sobering statistic.
On July 24, 2020, that someone was me. I was diagnosed with malignant neoplasm of my right breast…estrogen receptor positive. This has been the scariest time of my life. I’m fighting this hideous disease daily. It’s my mission to do whatever I can to stay alive. Being a health professional for over 30 years, my diagnosis really took me by huge surprise. The erosion of my, mental and physical well-being has been so real. But my faith continues to grow. I’ve been in this fight for a year now and unfortunately, I just started my second round of chemotherapy, hormonal treatments, lymphedema treatments and so much more. The fight continues.
My name is Sonya D. and I’m writing to ask for your financial support. Asking for money is never easy for anyone, but most of us have been in situations where we’ve needed to ask for help. If you’ve been in this scenario, you can agree that it’s a very difficult and humbling task. No one wants to feel like a burden and it’s so easy to feel ashamed and like a failure when reaching out for support. Any amount can help me with medical bills, medicine, Dr. visits, transportation to and from appointments, food, etc. I have incurred a huge financial obligation due to this terrible disease. The phone calls daily from medical bill collectors have become very overwhelming.
I was an entrepreneur and gym owner for over 30 years. Like many others, my gym was shut down due to COVID-19. All of this happened right around the time of my diagnosis. Unlike many others, I am not able even today to reopen due to cancer. I am doing my training virtually; however, my income has shifted tremendously.
