Hello friends and family of Tiffannee,
We’ve made this GoFundMe fundraiser on behalf of Tiffannee Rush in hopes that we can together help ease the financial burden that Tiffannee faces in her fight with breast cancer. Tiffannee is a full-time student at Skyline College studying Business Administration. She is an active part of the UMOJA-ASTEP learning community and the Women’s Mentoring and Leadership Academy (WMLA). Any support that you can provide Tiffannee would be most helpful. Below is her story:
"In March 2020, I was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer. I am BRCA2 positive and ER & PR positive and have a high chance for recurrence, which is why I will have a hysterectomy as preventive care. I will also have a double mastectomy and hopefully a reconstruction. My cancer is aggressive, and I will need chemotherapy treatments and will need to take Tamoxifen for 5 years. I have a family history of cancer: my mom had breast cancer twice and is the only survivor in my family.
Battling cancer during a pandemic is very challenging, as I’ve had to go through much of this journey alone. I had to go into surgery without anyone there to support me because the hospital would not allow anyone in the waiting room due to COVID-19. I have been to all of my appointments alone, while receiving bad news.
Although this journey has been tough so far, I have to keep fighting to be here for my daughter. I am a single mom, as my daughter’s father was tragically taken in 2018. This has been extremely hard for my daughter: she has already lost her dad and is now in fear of losing her mom. I can't imagine not being here for her and pray that God blesses me to be here to love and protect her.
I teach my daughter to never give up no matter what obstacles may come your way, and thus I have to lead by example. I am a full-time student with the goal of transferring to obtain my bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. Despite my diagnosis, I have managed to finish this semester in college. One of the photos here is of my daughter at her honor roll ceremony where she received her honor roll ribbon, medal, certificate, and Kente cloth (only 4.0 students receive the Kente cloth). She has been on the honor roll since the 3rd grade, and I am so proud of her. I love her so much and just want to be here for her as long as I can."
This will be a long and difficult battle that will require all of Tiffannee’s energy and strength. We know that many of you may be struggling right now as well, but if you have the ability and feel moved to give, it is with deep gratitude and appreciation that Tiffannee accepts your kindness.
Deepest thank you to all of you!
