Working with my Epileptic daughter
Donazione protetta
I'll start with my background and why I am here. Before my daughter was born, I worked for the US Forest Service for 9 years as a wildland firefighter. After she was born, I left my career to be a stay at home dad while my wife pursued her career in nursing. When my daughter was 2, she started having seizures and since febrile seizures are so common, it wasn't a big deal. She is now 5 and has Epilepsy, more specifically, she has been diagnosed with Dravet Syndrome; a genetic condition that can only be partially managed with medications and there is no cure. She has moderate symptoms and doesn't suffer from muscle control issues but has multiple types of seizures, developmental delays, migraines and misses a lot of school. She has to repeat kindergarten next year and is being evaluated for special education.
I have a very strong bond with my daughter and as much as I enjoy being with her, I also enjoy a hard day's work and the sense of a job well done. This has been a hard thing to keep while caring for my daughter when she is ill, recovering from a seizure, has a migraine or her many trips to her specialists in Sacramento, over an hour drive each way.
My most recent job was 6 months with Amazon and I was very good at my job but ultimately I had to take too much time off work to care for my daughter. I have come to terms that working from home is going to be my only chance of having a job and caring for my daughter. Unfortunately, these jobs are few and far between, especially without any experience in the usual fields.
I took a chance and purchased a cheap 3d printer and taught myself the ins and outs of 3d printing and design while I was still working. Fast forward few months and lots of tinkering and modifications to the printer, I am now at the point where I produce high quality prints for customers and I have more work orders than I can possibly complete . I am also unemployed so I see an opportunity to fill a demand.
This is something I am good at and I have started designing my own products to sell. I'm at the point where I really need more machines and machines that are capable of doing a wider variety of work. It's challenging work and something I have a passion for. When I need to drop everything to take care of my daughter, I'm am immediately available and there are no repercussions for taking time off. I have had some financial help from family in trying to expand this project, I am building a more capable printer from scratch and it will help but I will still be limited in my capabilities to take orders.
In summary, I need your help to expand my capabilities in order to actually make this a profitable and productive endeavor for my mental health and for the financial stability of my family.
Here is my hub link that shows some of my work as well as my reputation.
