WoodShed & ChickenCoop up in Flames
Doação protegida
Blessings,
Alden and I had an eventful Christmas Weekend here at Three Ravens Farm ( www.centerofheartistry.org ). Those of you that know us personally know that the two of us (thankfully!) spent the Christmas Holidays at home by ourselves, because I, Maria, am currently rather debilitated with three herniated discs in my lower back.
The evening of Friday December 23rd, as we return back to our home after my first Spinal Decompression Therapy appointment in Portland, Maine, we pull up to our farm and see an orange glow and our woodshed and chicken coop up in flames. The woods were lit up in orange, and the fire was blazing high.
We called 911 and impressingly quick, six volunteer fire departments from around the area showed up and helped put out the fire. The entire building is gone, 15 hens lost their lives. Among the survivors who managed to get to the outdoor pen in time, are the four ducks, and five brave hens. Some of the hens Alden had to humanely euthanize on Christmas Eve morning, because they had suffered too much burn damage.
For the survivors, Alden was out late in the night, building them a temporary shelter from the harsh elements here in Maine at the moment. He put together a little "EarthShip" with hay bales, metal roof panels, a woodboard and some old windows to create a south facing wall of windows for solar gain. It's a pretty neat temporary solution, but needless to say, our birdladies need new quarters quickly!
On top of the hens, we also lost our woodshed with ALL of our firewood for the winter. We live in a woodheat only home, and fire wood is a must have in December going into January in Maine!!! So we are reaching out for help to be able rebuild a woodshed and fill it with new wood AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!
Our estimated total budget is $10,600:
$5300 materials and labor cost for
NEW WOOD SHED
$1500 materials and labor cost for
NEW CHICKEN COOP
$1500 to buy NEW FIREWOOD.
$2300 to replace all the garden tools, Husqvarna Chainsaw w accessories, Chicken Coop accessories like feeders, waterers, heating units, feed tin cans, feed, bedding etc etc ..
Your help and contribution to our emergency fund would be deeply appreciated by Alden and I, as well as by the 9 brave birds living in somewhat of an igloo at the moment.. :) Thank you and may you have a Happy, Healthy and Abundant New Year!
Love, Maria
