Hello - thanks for visiting my fundraising page. My name is Marlon and I’m from Birmingham. With your support and with the help of volunteers I am planning a waterfall challenge, that will help to encourage the Black community to explore the great outdoors. The money raised will fund all that is needed to embark on the walks, including transportation, clothing, walking boots, backpacks for children, food, accommodation and activities. The challenge will end with a celebration event, once the walks are completed. As a qualified herbalist, long distance runner, community health and well-being activist my passion for the great outdoors has always played a major part in my own mental health and well-being. I created We Go Outside Too, to raise awareness of the great outdoors and its health benefits. In addition, I wanted to use the landscape to encourage solidarity and unity in the Black community, especially among young people. Following the death of my son this year, due to knife crime, and the onset of COVID, I was compelled to set up my Community Interest Company. My connection to nature developed on a deeper level. I started to feel empowered and able to face my trauma and focus on future goals, which would also benefit the wider Black community. As an organisation, we want to make the countryside accessible, while also empowering our community to experience the benefits they gain from physical, low impact activity. I’m excited by the prospect of demystifying the countryside for many more people in the Black community.
