WATER IS LIFE: Help Build a Water Tank in Uganda
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Anastasia and I'm fundraising for a rural town in Musharara-Rushura, Uganda to help them build a water tank. According to the water tank building proposal, "The population of Musharara-Rushura is about 2000 people and the population increases day by day due to the inflow of the civil war refugees from Congo." When their current rain harvesting tanks dry out, these communities depend entirely upon pond water, which carries disease and dries out seasonally.

People must travel long distances in order to bring drinking water back for their families.
I'm working with Niwagaba Simeon, the organizer and director of the project, to ensure that the funds go to helping the entire community to the greatest extent possible. I learned of Simeon's cause through my father's coworker, who met him during his time in Uganda and connected him to my family. Simeon sent all the photos used in this fundraiser and continues to send more photos and individuals' of the community's stories. Simeon spends time between Musharara-Rushura and Kampala, Uganda and does work as part of an organization called the Allied Youth Academy. He will be working with local community members as well as a water engineer in order to complete the tank construction, and this water tank proposal includes an itemized list and further details how the funds will be used. He has led several other projects in the past such as constructing a building for community use and starting a community garden

This is what Simeon has to say:
"The story of the community where our focus is: The name of the village is Sarugyera, Kabumba. It's located in the hills of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Kanungu district Uganda. The village borders the Democratic Republic of Congo and its inhabitants live a life lacking water, health facilities, roads, and schools, to mention but a few. They walk a distance of 5km to access all of the mentioned above. I'm pleased that together we can do something to change their lives. We can build rainwater harvesting tanks, build a school for Young ones and a clinic for first aid."
Simeon hopes to eventually fundraise to build new school and first aid buildings, but first, he recognizes that everyone in the community must have access to the most basic essential of life: water.
These are some photos showcasing Simeon's past and ongoing community-based projects. With his dedication to community improvement and leadership experience, Simeon is well-equipped to tackle this project and ensure that water is accessible to all in this village.
