For the last several years the fraternity has been doing great on about every front you can imagine (academically, recruiting, awards, philanthropy, just to name a few). However, since last March the chapter has been unable to engage in just about every aspect of college life you can imagine (socials, brotherhoods, rush events, even in-person chapter meetings). All the while, members have been asked to pay dues to cover fixed chapter expenses (insurance & GHQ dues). This has created four significant issues.
1. Existing member numbers are dropping (graduation or not returning to school)
2. New Phikeia numbers are very low as it is difficult to sell the fraternity when recruits can’t even experience the chapter/members
3. Active members are feeling like they are paying significant sums of money and getting very little in return (since the fraternity is not conducting any of its normal activities)
4. The reserve fund that they chapter had so diligently built up has been significantly depleted
The Alumni Board is concerned that this short-term problem (COVID-19) could have long-term implications on the viability of an otherwise healthy chapter. That is why we are reaching out to our 300-plus alumni to ask for help in supporting the chapter on covering some of their fixed expenses. We are hoping to raise $5,000 in the next few months. All money raised will be sent directly to GHQ to cover fixed WAE chapter expenses. As fellow WAE alumni, we ask each of you to give whatever you can so that we have a chapter to visit and engage with when this whole COVID-19 nightmare ends.
