Pumpkin's Recovery

Hello,

I’m Lauren and I’m raising money to help save my cat Pumpkin. I adopted Pumpkin 3 years ago and he’s changed my life in so many ways. He is the most loving, curious, kind, playful, communicative cat. He really is the best cat in the world. He sticks to me like velcro, and follows me literally everywhere. I have never laughed as much as with him - some of the things he does and positions he sits in… he’s just the biggest character and makes a huge impact on anyone that knows him.

He recently had a terrible accident that means he has to undergo several extremely high risk & complicated procedures in order for him to be able to live a happy life.

The degree of trauma that Pumpkin underwent due to this accident is so great that his bones have absorbed a lot of energy that will affect their biology. Pumpkin has fractured his tibial, which is his back leg. It’s completely smashed and today he will undergo surgery with the aim to save this leg. He has also fractured his elbow in multiple pieces. This inevitably means he will have joint issues for the rest of his life. He will hopefully undergo surgery to save his elbow on Monday or Tuesday. Both of these fractures are what they call “open” meaning that when the bones broke, the sharper ends burst through the skin and were highly contaminated. Due to this, the structures they will put in place during the surgery to keep the bones in place so that they can heal as best as possible, and minimise infection, will be external metal pins and rods. Pumpkin also suffers from metacarpal fractures, all of his front toes are broken. In short, Pumpkin will have to undergo 3 very intense and complicated surgeries, and that’s if all goes well to plan. Due to the nature of his injuries, and the intensity of the procedures, there is high risk of drastic complications. Both myself and the team working with him have come to the decision to go through with them on the basis that his cognitive state & blood results are perfect.

Pumpkin is currently at a highly specialised vet and the team looking after him & operating on him have his absolutely best interests at heart. As these surgeries require immense technological and biological intelligence, they are extremely costly. I have been estimated a minimum of £20,000 for this process.

I went to visit Pumpkin today and he is still so himself. He is cognitively completely there. He is stealing the hearts of everyone at the practice because of how loving he is, even in the state he is in he seems to be in good spirits. For this reason and the fact that he is like my son & best friend, I will not give up on him now and have made the decision to go ahead with the process. It will be a step by step & case by case journey but I have every hope that he will make it through this because he has so much left to give. It’s a miracle he survived the accident and he deserves every effort possible.

I have never set up a gofundme but I have no other choice at the moment. I am self-employed and am doing everything I can to help save my best friend. Any donation is very greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Lauren
