Village Borehole Malawi for Nia Dhariya Gaffar
Donation protected
Blessings all,
Our names are Mahin Omar and Adam Gaffar, parents of Nia Dhariya Gaffar.
It is with the heaviest hearts that we write this. In May, our family was in an awful car accident in which our beautiful gorgeous baby Nia died. It has been truly the hardest loss and most sorrowful time of our life. But with all of your prayers, love, and support we are so grateful for our community far and wide that holds us up.
Our gorgeous Nia was so bubbly, bright, present, aware, and engaged, a true light to be around. When anyone would engage with her, she would give all she had as long as they acknowledged her by looking her in the eyes and saying "Hi Nia!" As you may know she was born in Mississauga and when she was 3 months old we travelled to Malawi, our homebase. She was the light of everyone's eye that she passed every day. Our house staff member whose name is Umiya loved her like her own daughter. Everyday Nia would wake up excited to see who had come into the house to see her. Her favourite routine was greeting Umiya her best friend in the morning with her hand in the air, a great big smile and boucing in our arms. Nia established such a loving, fun, and intentional routine to her days. A great mixture of play, sleep, observation, and when she got old enough- eating. She loved the local fruits of Malawi like clemintines, pineapple, banana (every morning she would be upset if you ate a banana without giving her any), and more. Even when she would spend time with us at our Bakery and Cafes in Malawi she would love observing, playing, saying hi to people, and would find it so calming to go on walks and pick leaves and flowers. She truly build a present love for the land in Malawi here and the local people of Malawi.
Now of course this has to be the hardest thing ever to experience and process, but something that brings us, as Nia's parents, the greatest sense of purpose is doing something, anything, to honour her. And all of you have been so truly amazing by asking us to reach out if we need any sort of help, and we truly appreciate that. So, as our faith outlines, one of the best ways to Honour and send blessings to someone who has passed away is to donate in the form of Water. And we thought, what better place to donate the water to than to Umiya's home village in rural Malawi.
Malawi's water table is wonderfully blessed with fresh water, but access to fresh water in rural villages in Malawi is rare and scarce. So we ask you to help us raise money to build a Borehole in Umiya's home village in Zomba, Malawi. Umiya's village is deep inside off the main road that doesn't have access with any tar road and the village itself doesn't have a freshwater Borehole. So to access freshwater, they have to walk at least 1 hour to access a borehole in a nearby school that is not in their village. The village is so heartwarmed with the effort that even Umiya's elder mum, who is around 60 years old, said she has to be there to supervise the installation of a borehole in Nia's name.
The funds will be used to survey the land and install a community freshwater borehole in the village named Mlooka 2 located in rural Zomba, Malawi. Mlooka 2 is very rural, the land is quite flat and can be arid due to the dry hot climate but the village is on elevated flat land that overlooks the Shire River, one of the subsistence great freshwater rivers of Malawi. The process includes:
- Surverying the land for a freshwater source
- Agreeing with the community and community leaders to install the Borehole in a certain location that is accessible to all in Mlooka 2
- Drilling the borehole down to the freshwater source
- Installing a pump and water access station
- With prayer and intention opening the Borehole on behalf of our beautiful Nia Dhariya Gaffar
With your support, the Borehole can be installed by August 2022. Thank your for your time, love and support. In sincere gratitude and love, thank you for helping us give in our amazing daughter's name.
