October may be Breast Cancer Awareness Month but did you know that 1 in 20 people will be diagnosed with colorectal cancer? Or that rates of colorectal cancer for people under the age of 50 has steadily risen since 1985? Wendy’s Warriors know this and here’s why...
In June of 2014 Wendy Lehman was diagnosed with colon cancer and immediately faced 2 invasive surgeries followed by six months of chemotherapy and radiation. Since then she has faced several more surgeries and another brief round of chemotherapy.
Throughout the past four years this single mom of two adolescent boys has continued to work despite the unending complications and pain. She has maintained her independence and strong work ethic to keep her home, provide the basic needs of her children and to cover her medical bills as much as she can.
Wendy recently discovered that the cancer returned and this time extraordinary measures need to be taken. She’s traveled out of state where a field of specialists are willing to perform the surgery that the doctors at UofM refused to do. The travel, the loss of income and the out-of -pocket expenses are sure to take a greater toll on her.
Wendy has already spent over $40k on medical care and this surgery will be a minimum of $14k because it is ‘out-of-network’. We, “Wendy’s Warriors” have decided that enough is enough! We want her to devote all of her energy to healing her body and not worrying about her financial situation and the piling bills. We have created this gofundme account to assist Wendy with her medical and living expenses for the next few months so she can focus on her recovery. Please consider donating.
