USS Emmons Memorial Plaque
Tax deductible
Help preserve history. We are raising money to replace the memorial plaque on the wreck of USS Emmons (DD457/DMS22), sunk April 7, 1945 during the battle of Okinawa. The existing plaque, with the names of the 60 shipmates killed or missing, was funded by Emmons crew members and placed on the wreck by divers in 2003. The corrosive effects of the sea have since taken their toll and the plaque is at risk of falling apart. The replacement plaque will allow us to move the original plaque to a place of honor and help keep the memory of USS Emmons alive. The original plaque will be raised, cleaned and placed on loan at the Emmons Training Center at Camp Shields, Okinawa. The new plaque will be placed on the wreck by local divers, friends of the Emmons Association. The cost of casting the new plaque and shipment to Okinawa is approximately $3,400. Any excess funds raised will go to the Emmons Scholarship fund. Thank you for your consideration and contribution to this worthy cause.
