Uptown 3 Theatre Covid-19 Community Relief Fund

For over 27 years, the Uptown 3 Theatre has been providing family-fun entertainment with family-friendly prices. We are a proud locally owned independent theatre operating in a world where big box cinemas have been slowly taking over. Despite the harsh competition, Uptown 3 Theatre has stood the test of time and has found continuous ways of providing entertainment to our community.

Last October, we faced a tough situation. The theatre had begun to dip in sales and it was becoming tougher and tougher to break even. We were deciding whether or not we should close, or continue fighting the good fight to stay open.

We were overwhelmed when this news got out and thousands of local patrons began supporting the theatre to prevent us from closing. The momentum was growing, and we started hosting events alongside our movies to help bolster attendance and increase revenue.

Some of these events included our Anna and Elsa Frozen 2 Event, our Starwars Cantina Party, and even a live petting zoo when Dr. Dolittle came out earlier this year. We even competed in the second annual Sierra Vista 48 Hour Film Competition in March. Our Film called Reel Life won Audience Choice, First Place, Best Cinematography, Best Actor, and Best Screenplay. The coolest part is the film was actually made at the Uptown 3 Theatre and featured one of our old 35MM projectors which we have displayed in the lobby! A true testament to the history we have in our community! :)

But just like zombie movies took over the industry for a few years, we have a new virus-based dilemma on our hands. The Covid-19 Virus Pandemic has absolutely halted all the wonderful momentum that we have fought so hard to grow. We had to close our doors on March 20th through May 15th because of the Stay at Home orders that Governor Ducey put into place to keep our communities safe.

But bills were piling up and we ended up in the hole trying to stay open. When we reopened in May things started to look better. We operated for almost two months and managed to just barely break-even before getting closed down again on June 29th.

But because we are closing again, and we were only breaking even the last few months, we are pretty worried that we will not be able to weather the next month, or longer depending on how Covid-19 continues to develop. We want to do the right thing and keep our community safe, but we need help from that same community if we are going to survive and be around when the world gets back to normal.

It is no secret that small businesses are being hit the hardest during these closures. We understand the need to keep the community safe, but when big box stores, restaurants, and other large venues are allowed to stay open, and we are not, it seems to be hitting us a bit harder.

For this reason, we have set up this GoFund me page to hopefully raise enough money to keep our Rent and Utilities paid during this forced closure.  We do not know how long we will have to stay closed, and don't know if this will continue to happen in the future through rolling shutdowns to keep the community safe.

For this reason we are asking for YOUR help. We have supported this community for almost 30 years, and you have supported us! :) We are asking that if you can donate, to please consider supporting us during these pressing times. If you can't afford to donate, please share our page with others who may be able to help. Any amount helps, even a dollar! :)

We have been blessed to support this wonderful community for so long. And it means the world to us....words simply can't explain the love we have for all of you. We are grateful for all of the support we have received this past year. We are also scared about the future but aren't ready to quit fighting the good fight to stay open. Your continued support means everything to us. We can't wait to open back up, but are humbled by the fact that we need your help. Can you help Sierra Vista?

Sincerely,

The Uptown 3 Theatre Family :)
