Expenses for Lindsey, Jason & Josh
My name is Rachael and I am raising money for my cousin's medical & housing expenses.
Let me tell you a little about my cousins. My cousin Lindsey is the youngest of 3 siblings. Their father died of cancer when Lindsey was only 6 and then when Lindsey was 29, their mother passed away unexpectedly from heart related issues...leaving them without the typical parental support system that most of us get to enjoy throughout much of our lives.
Lindsey has 2 older brothers, her oldest brother suffers from psychological issues and is permanently disabled. Her other brother has been acting as the caretaker for the oldest brother, since their mother passed away.
About a month ago, Lindsey received a call from her brother, telling her that he was in the hospital and that she needed to travel from her current home in Tennessee to her childhood hometown in California because someone needed to take care of their oldest brother. She quickly made the necessary arrangements, and was on a cross-country flight the next day.
She initially thought that she would be in California for 1-2 weeks, but once she arrived, she discovered that the situation was much worse than she realized. Her brother, who is only 45 years old, was hospitalized for 9 days with double pneumonia, during which time he suffered 2 strokes. She also discovered that he had been sick for several months, but hadn't gone to receive medical care during this time.
Because of his extended illness, the house & property had fallen into extreme disrepair. So a decision was made that their childhood home would be put on the market, the 2 brothers would move back to Tennessee with her until the house sold, and then once they received the money from the sale of the house, they would find the brothers a condo so that they would no longer have to worry about being responsible for building & property upkeep.
Since this was an unexpected trip, Lindsey was operating on extremely limited funds. She had budgeted for a rental car and food for her planned 2 weeks in California. She has now been in California for almost 4 weeks, and she has spent over $2500 just on getting the house ready to put on the market.
They planned to start driving back to Tennessee on July 15th. So I was originally planning on making this GoFundMe campaign to help with the cost of cross country moving expenses. But 2 days ago, her brother found out that his double pneumonia has returned and his lungs are again filling up with fluid. Because of this, she has had to extend her stay yet again. Her brother is not currently well enough to travel. Their house goes on the market this coming week and since they were planning on leaving tomorrow, their furniture and belongings are already packed up and in storage, ready to be shipped cross country. So now, she is scrambling to make hotel/housing accommodations for herself and her brothers, until her brother is well enough to travel.
My hope is that we could raise enough money to cover their costs for hotel/rental car/food until they are able to close on the sale of their home & receive the funds from that. Any extra that is raised, above the amount needed for living expenses, will be put towards her brother's ever mounting medical expenses.
If you can help at all, any amount is appreciated. Also, if you could share this campaign on your social media accounts, that would be wonderful. If you aren't able to help financially we ask for you to share this fundraiser with friends & family, and to send prayers their way.
Thank you so much,
Rachael
