Trail Damage in Oconto County

On July 19, 2019 the Northern Oconto County communities of Bagley, Brazeau, Breed, Doty, Lakewood, Mountain/Chute Pond, Riverview/Crooked Lake and Townsend were hit by a Macro Burst storm packing winds of 80-120 miles per hour encompassing 450 square miles of land area. This includes the same area affected by the 2007 tornado that covered 41 square miles. On July 21, 2019 a Disaster Declaration has been declared to assist in recovery efforts with access to assistance with state and federal resources. Governor Evers has affirmed the Declaration at the state level.

The effects of the storm have been devastating to all ATV/UTV, snowmobile, horse, hiking, cross country ski routes and trails. The resulting damage has left walls of logs and timber as high as 15-20 feet. This devastation has forced closure of all trail systems to the public. Safety issues prevent clubs and individuals from volunteering to restore trails at this time.

Prioritization of all needs in the area have been resulting in restoration of trails to be moved to the last on the list. Tourism is the number one economic engine for the eight communities to provide enjoyment for visitors and recreational users. Our need for professional logging services is imperative for trail recovery in a timely fashion.  Please think about donating to bring in professional services to get the Oconto County Trail System cleaned up.
