Hello everyone,
My name is Dominic Kreiling, and I am a local BSA scout from Troop 15, located on French Island. I am currently working to get my Eagle Rank, which is the highest rank in Scouts BSA. Part of getting this rank involves me having to organize, and more importantly lead, an “eagle project” that benefits the community. My project will be to create a dog park on French Island, more specifically along Lakeshore Dr. This dog park will be a great way for residents of the Town of Campbell to socialize and exercise their dogs. This project won’t be cheap though, as with all materials included I am estimating this project will cost just under $8,000.
The main cost of the project is to finish fencing in the ⅗ acres of land provided by the town, which will cost around $6,500. This $6,500 also will include rubber weed blockers along the fence, which will help the Town of Campbell’s maintenance crew. This project will be more than just a fenced area for dogs, though. The additional $1,500 needed will allow me to install benches, dog-friendly obstacles, pet waste bag dispensers, and even a tall post with hooks and buckets to hold tennis balls, tug-of-war ropes, and many other dog toys that will be free for public use at the park.
One thing you must know about my project, and all eagle projects in general, is that it is centered around a scout showing leadership. The whole idea behind Scouts BSA is to create young adults that will become active in their community through leadership and service, and eagle projects do just that. Throughout the project, I will have to lead my fellow scouts through different tasks to support the project. This includes leading them through setting up the weed guards, constructing the benches and obstacles, and finally spreading the news about the dog park once it is completed.
Due to Scouts BSA rules, there are some things you need to know about how funds will be handled throughout the process of making the park. First off, the Gateway Area Council (The BSA Council that Troop 15 is located in) is not soliciting any donations through my Eagle Project. I am solely responsible for keeping records of all donations, purchases, and donors. If you decide to donate, you will be provided with a physical and digital record after your donation has been used in some aspect of the project.
Once the entire project is finished, all donors will receive a printed handout including information about the dog park, its features, and the entire budget of the project. In the rare case that I received too many donations for the dog park, all the extra funds will be allocated to a local animal shelter. I will never be in possession of any donation money, per Scouts BSA policy, so all donation money will be held in the Troop 15 bank account.
Thank you so much for your consideration, it is greatly appreciated! If you have any questions or would like to see some more information please feel free to email me at [email redacted]. If you would like to speak directly with the beneficiary to confirm project plans, please email [email redacted].
Sincerely,
Dominic Kreiling
