My youngest brother started feeling ill in February of 2017. In the beginning, he thought he was fighting a stomach virus. After a few weeks, he went to see a physician at a local clinic in Colorado Springs, Colorado. They treated him for a possible ulcer. He would feel okay for a few days and then again would battle with nausea. He couldn't keep anything down. The doctors kept treating him for different things; i.e., acid reflux, etc. He was scheduled for a CAT-Scan on April 25th. Thankfully, on April 13th, his wife insisted he go to an urgent care facility who immediately sent him in for a CAT-Scan. He was told by the physician that a hospital room was set up for him and he would need immediate surgery. At the time, his abdomen was extremely distended. He went to the hospital, but surgery could not be performed immediately because of the swelling in his abdomen. Surgery was performed on April 15th. He had half of his large intestine removed, some of his small intestines removed, 61 lymph nodes removed, and a chunk of his liver. He was diagnosed with Stage 3 colon cancer. The doctor told him if he had waited another 24 to 48 hours, he would have died. At this time, we are waiting a pathologist in Denver to determine what form of cancer he has before a treatment regimen can begin, and cancer treatment cannot begin until he has gained some weight and he becomes stronger. At this time, the family needs help with medical bills and household needs. My brother's wife has had to take off work to assist him, and my brother does not know when he can return to work. My brother wishes to only take care of necessary expenses he will not be able to cover. If any money is left over after expenses have been paid, he will donate to a colon cancer charity.
