Clean Water for Tibetan Refugees
Donation protected
In August, the three of us - Greg Cartwright, Caley O’Grady, and James Robertson as Team Tiki Masala - along with dozens of other teams, will be taking part in the Adventurists’ Rickshaw Run, a 3,500km race over 16 days across India in an Auto Rickshaw. And while we're there, we'll be raising money to help fund a water filtration system for a school in Dharamsala in the Indian Himalayas. The school serves Tibetan refugee children who have fled Tibet and now live in India along with nearly 100,000 other Tibetan refugees. This important program is administered by the Lha Charitable Trust in Dharamsala and it’s sister organization the Louisiana Himalaya Association.
We’ve selected the Lha Charitable Trust and the Louisiana Himalaya Association as the charities we’re working with because they have a proven track record of successful projects including the installation and maintenance of water filtration systems they've placed into schools, monasteries and other buildings. You can check out the many other worthwhile projects they've already completed at their websites - http://www.lhainfo.org and http://www.lhasocialwork.org.
The Louisiana Himalaya Association is a completely volunteer staffed organization supporting the Tibetan refugee community with 100% of all donations received. The money we raise will go directly to purchasing and installing a water system for the school. There is independent funding already in place to ensure that the system is maintained and serviced, including routine filter replacements.
They also have independent funding already in place to ensure that the system is maintained and serviced, including routine filter replacements.
Your donations will have an immediate, long lasting, and vitally important impact on the lives of hundreds of school children who live in desperate poverty. Water-borne disease is a serious public health issue throughout India including in Dharamsala, but with your help we can help make that a thing of the past.
You can also follow along with our progress in the race at http://tracking.theadventurists.com and http://www.theadventurists.com/rickshaw-run
Thanks! James, Caley & Greg
