The Peace and Hope school, Rwanda.

On the 16th June myself and Grace will be running the Southampton half marathon in hopes to raise money for the Peace and Hope school in Rwanda, a place very close to our hearts. The Peace and Hope school is situated in Kigali, where we visited in 2019 on a charity based trip. Here we met so many kind, fun, intelligent and inspiring students who individually touched us with their determination and perseverance to learn, experiencing school as as an exciting opportunity. Unfortunately, especially since the 1994 genocide, access to essential equipment and supplies in Rwandan schools are limited. The genocide left schools closed, school buildings destroyed, many teachers killed, children left orphans and many families lost their savings becoming very poor. On our 2019 trip we collectively fundraised money to purchase pens, pencils, notepads, toys and clothing for the children and took it around schools, teaching lessons to the children ourselves and spending time getting to know them. In 2021 myself and Grace wanted to help more, despite being across the globe in England and walked a marathon raising a further £700 towards building a new classroom to educate more children. Despite the “I’m never doing that again”s the importance of the education of these students have made us determined to do even more and so we ask for your help.
After conversing with Albert at the Peace and Hope school he’s shared the need for more school supplies, further building developments to the school and uniform for the children. These children need all the help they can get and so we ask for yours, a donation as little as a pound makes a huge difference.
Many thanks,
Grace and Grace.
A note from Albert:
Our mission and vision are to help vulnerable children. We specifically aim to provide an alternative to child labor get children off of the streets, Prevent child pregnancies, and do this through Education. It is with this mission and vision in mind that the Peace and Hope Initiative created Peace and Hope Academy School which now provides free education to more than 350 Children. “I felt the need to take action to assist the community in breaking free from the cycle of poverty that has trapped them since the 1950s when our parents were denied access to education due to genocide ideology. I began with 78 children selected from child-headed households. As of January 2023, we had 350 children in our program, with over 200 more on a waiting list due to a shortage of classrooms. I would like to invite you to partner with us.”
Further information on the peace and hope school can be provided via request to Grace or Grace.
